The brake lights intermittently come on and off. Not reliable and the entire assembly has to be replaced per light in order to work. Sometimes if you hit a bump it will work for a bit then go back out. They have been removed, cleaned, but there is no way to fix them without replacing them. This is a known problem with GMC and they will not warranty or recall this issue.

This is a common issue that is not being resolved by GM. First one, now BOTH of my rear tail lights are malfunctioning due to manufacturing defects. This is a well publicized problem and I feel that GM should be responsible for continuing to ignore the issue. Replacement tail lights are approximately $750 each. There are many businesses that have sprung up solely to repair these tail lights.

I received a letter from GMC dated December 2019 warning of brake lights intermittenly not illuminating. I have periodically checked the lights for failure over the last 3 years. On September 8, 2022, a motorist pulled beside me and informed me that my brake lights were not working. I confirmed that the lights were not working and called GMC regarding the letter I had received in 2019 and was told that a recall had not been issued and that my vehicle was outside the 6 year eligibility period. This defect is Extremely Dangerous to myself and others due to the inherent unpredicability and unreliabilty of an important safety necessity, i.e., knowing that others will see that I am stopping/slowing down. I believe that due to the intermittent nature of the failure of a highly necessary safety feature, GMC should issue a recall to repair at no cost ALL vehicles.

My Wife was driving at a low speed completing a right hand turn through an intersection and as she completed the turn the vehicle completely lost all steering. The vehicle ran up onto a curb but she was able to stop before she hit a poll. The vehicle was towed home and I found that there was no power to the steering wheel controls, the horn didn't work and there were Electronic Steering warnings. I also found that the steering wheel could spin freely like a top without any movement of the wheels. Upon examination in the engine compartment I found that the bottom of the steering shaft was completely disconnected and the single bolt that holds the 2 pieces together was missing. I took the vehicle to the local GMC dealership and they conformed that the bolt was missing and the shafts came apart which lead to the steering failure. The free movement of the steering wheel caused the internal malfunction of the steering wheel electronics. Prior to the steering failure there was no indications of any steering issues. The steering warning lights didn't come on until the steering failure. My Wife and children were about to get on the freeway when the failure occurred and could have led to a fatal accident if this failure occurred while she was driving on the freeway. I contacted GM and opened a case but was informed that they would not provide any assistance with the repair which is about $2900. I don't understand how GM would design a steering shaft that has a single point failure tha

My "Service Trailer Brake System" messages comes on periodically for days at a time with and without my trailer. The loud chime rings consistently for the duration of the drive. It makes driving unbearable. When connecting my trailer to it, the brakes do not seem to function correctly when towing. This is very dangerous. I found out that a lot of my fellow GMC SUV drivers have the same problem.

I have had to replace both front and rear exterior lighting in past (3). Now my rear brake light is now out. This makes 3 exterior that I’ve had to complete replace. Went out suddenly. No way to replace bulbs, dealer reports Entire assembly needs replacing at cost of almost $1000. There has to be a design flaw that every exterior lighting has gone out for so many owners and has to be REPLACED. There should be a recall on this. This model has had so many costly issues.

My transmission has issues shifting between 1st and 2nd gear. It has for several years. I have brought it into the dealership several times. They fix a part but when I get the car back, it’s still experiencing the same problem. When Accelerating, the car jerks between 1st and 2nd gear right around 10 miles per hour. It is a hard jerk that feels like you’ve been hit from behind.

The service brake assist warning message keeps appearing. Additionally, when the vehicle is completely stopped, but then you let off the brake to roll forward a little bit (such as at a stoplight), when you press the brake again it does not have stopping power. Must pump the brake several times as the vehicle rolls. This is particularly dangerous in downhill stops. It appears there is a safety recall on the power assist vacuum for brakes on 2015 GMC Yukon XL, but for some reason, my VIN is not included in the recall. I would like to know what it would take to include my VIN in the recall because it is the same year, make, and model.

1. When starting out for the day start yukon, wait about 30 sec for the system to do self check, put foot on brake, put in gear the yukon will jump forward sometimes and bang. 2. When driving and you are decreasing in speed, sometimes you will get a small increase in speed, then it will start slowing down, sometime easy or hard where it will push your body forward. 3. Driving time to merge with traffic, put your foot on the gas pushing down, the yukon will start to increase in speed, then stops responding, (just for a few seconds) then it will go fast and bang or just this is bad because the other cars are coming up fast, there have been times I had to goto the right again and get out of traffic because it took to long to go. I have complained about this many times the techs would look at it, stating there are bulletins out on this same issue, they would go though and reprogram the Trans, they would state drive it for 200 miles, and it should correct itself, and it would and be ok for a few months or longer, then start again take it back to dealer do the same thing, i ask them what's going to happen if i am out of warranty, then you will have to pay to have to reprograming its about $150.00. I stated why will i have to keep paying for this issue, if its not a good fix, its a band Aid fix..... So i was told by a tech take off the negtive battery cable for 30 mins, tis should help you out also. Now take it in for a oil change ask if there is any new updates, we will check for y

Breaks are faulty, lights continue to go out in the rear after only a year after purchase. I’ve read other complaints about these issues. could be wiring or electrical issue with the breaks. Engine sounds like a plane is about to take off, has had starting problems. Overall horrible vehicle. There are a lot of problems with the vehicle, the lights are extremely dangerous as person behind would not know if I’m stopping when they fail to work and can cause a serious accident. Engine is a major concern as well.

I was dropping my daughter off at school in the car line. I was at low speed trying to brake and with the brake all the way down couldn't stop immediately. I was able to stop but then went to go again and when tried to stop again, couldn't and hit the car in front of me. It was making a sound while trying to brake but wouldn't engage my brakes. Luckily it didn't leave any damage and the other driver said it was OK and accepted my apology as my brakes were not working correctly.

Fuel injector is direct injection into cylinder. Excess carbon build-up is endemic with this design causing power loss/decrease, knocking, and potentially increased emissions. Safety factor is loss/decrease of engine power when needed for safe highway driving. This problem is noted in GM literature and technical bulletins. The Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL), also know as the Check Engine Light, illuminated and provided generic malfunction codes via the OBD. Cylinder #7 fuel injector removed and replaced, mechanic inspected the used injector. Heavy carbon build-up noted.

LED Brake Lights fail due to design error typically on both side of the vehicle. I have found multiple reports of a failure on a circuit board that was poorly designed. A copper tracing is very narrow and fractures due to vibration resulting in Brake Light failure. Because the entire module must be replaced the repair costs $800-$900 per side.

Tail lights are not functioning properly. N182180270 was issued due to very common issue but no recall. The special adjustment only covers up to 72,000 miles. I now have 106,000 so not covered? Serious safety issue if brake lights are malfunctioning and GM aware of issue. If technician checking lights and they are intermittently working, then I drive away from dealer and they intermittently no longer work, that is a serious safety issue and a recall should happen. I took my vehicle in for an oil change and on the drive to have serviced I was told by my wife driving behind me that the right rear brake light wasn’t working. I asked tech to check. Technician confirmed but states left isn’t working either. Yet on drive to drop the vehicle for oil change the left was working. And we have a time stamped photo as proof(attached). I had someone tell me right rear brake light was out a couple of years ago but when I had it checked, all were on. So when are they working? When are they not working? And that is why a recall should be issued. correct a faulty design. These aren’t an easy fix of replacing a bulb. The whole unit has to be replaced at $700+ each. How many people are out there driving with these intermittent brake lights? We periodically check our lights to ensure working. But if these lights are on/off intermittently, that does very little good. Scary!

LED brake light on drivers side fails to illuminate (noticed first at about 72,700 miles). Upon further research, this appears to be a recurring issue with 2015-2016 Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles. The LED taillight assembly is a sealed housing and the individual brake light bulbs are not replaceable. There appears to be a design defect that is causing premature failures of these assemblies, which results in a safety hazard because the driver does not receive any notification that the brake lights have failed.

THE TECHNICIAN ALSO INSPECTED THE LIGHTS AND STATED IN THE DIAGNOSTIC REPORT THAT ALL LIGHTS WERE WORKING AT THE TIME OF INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER FOR THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE SECOND DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT THEN HAD HER FRIEND, WHO WAS A RETIRED AUTHORIZED GMC TECHNICIAN, INSPECTED THE TAILLIGHTS AND DUPLICATED THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN BACK TO SIERRA BLANCA MOTOR CO. HOWEVER, THE SERVICE ADVISOR INSPECTED THE TAIL LIGHTS BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD CHECK WITH THE DEALER TO SEE IF THEY COULD ASSIST WITH THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER LATER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD OFFER A 25% DISCOUNT FOR EACH LIGHT TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,835.

THE BRAKES FAILED IN MY CAR CAUSING A REAR COLLISION WITH AN OBJECT IN MY DRIVEWAY. AFTER INSPECTION FROM A CERTIFIED GMC DEALERSHIP, THE BRAKE FAILURE WAS NOT CAUSED BY SERVICE NEGLECT OR AGE OF BRAKES, IT WAS DUE TO THE VACCUM PUMP FAILURE TO PROVIDE PRESSURE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN TWO YEARS THIS PART HAS CAUSED MY BRAKES TO FAIL. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE PART AT NO COST THOUGH THERE IS NOT FORMAL RECALL ON THIS PART. BOTH TIMES THIS PART FAILED THE CAR WAS IN MOTION. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS TOWED OUT OF A CITY TO BE REPAIRED AS IT WAS DANGERSOUS TO DRIVE AND THE SECOND TIME THE FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO COLLIDE WITH A LARGE DUMPSTER IN MY DRIVEWAY CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. THANKFULLY THERE WAS NOT PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO ANY PERSONS IN EITHER OF THESE TWO INCIDENTS WHICH BOTH WERE NO FAULT OF THE DRIVER OR OWNER OF THE CAR.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
