We received a "important safety recall" notification letter from GMC in June 2023, informing us that there is a safety issue with the driver's side airbag. The recall reference number is N232404980. This recall calls out a potential hazard for metal fragments to pass through the airbag, which may result in injury or death. As of today, June 13, 2024, it has been over a year since we have received this notification, and there is still no resolution. I have called GMC directly, and was advised to "keep checking until a repair solution is available". Given that the cause of the recall can result in injury or death, a timeline of a year (or longer) to repair this issue is completely unacceptable. Someone needs to hold GMC accountable, and pressure them to make the repair for this recall available immediately. It is unacceptable that drivers of the impacted vehicles are expected to drive with a potentially dangerous (or fatal) recall, with no timeline of resolution. I expect the NHTSA to hold GMC accountable, and demand an immediate resolution to all vehicles impacted by recall #N232404980. WITH THE RISK OF DEATH, OUR ACADIA IS NOT ROAD SAFE, OFF THE ROAD UNTIL FIXED. OUR GM DEALER WILL NOT TAKE IT IN A TRADE FOR A NEW CAR AND THE DEALER WILL NOT GIVE US A LOANER UNTIL THE CAR IS SAFE.

I was driving about 30mph and accelerated to pass a truck and the transmission failed and the car lost any ability to accelerate and I had to coast to the side of the highway and have the car towed to the dealer. The dealer stated the transmission would need to be replaced and it would be $9000. Mileage is 77,013. This is the third time the transmission has malfunctioned and caused the car to lose power on the highway. It has been repaired twice previously.

I'm reporting on the timeliness of known recall #N232404980. It has been about a year since I've received the initial recall notice. I've contacted the dealer twice to see to check the status of the recall and they have stated that the parts are not yet available and they don't know when the parts will become available. I contacted the dealer approx. 6-7 months after receiving the initial recall notice and then again about 5 months later (that was today). The current status of the recall is: "Recall INCOMPLETE. Remedy not yet available" I'm not sure what is considered 'timely' with a recall of this nature but after a year it might be prudent for the manufacturer to issue an update stating the time frame when the parts should start to come available. While looking for this information, I attempted to find the information on the manufacturer's website but the page timed out and I was not able to find out any more information about this recall from the manufacturer or other sources. I found the following statement from the NHTSA while seeking information from the NHTSA website about this recall: "If the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner, please contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at: 1-888-327-4236 or TTY: 1-800-424-9153 or file an online complaint with NHTSA. " This is the reason I am filing this online complaint. I would like the dealer to provide an update on when the parts will be available for this rec

The airbag recall was acknowledged 3 years ago and there is still no "remedy" for the dangerous recall. After 3 years with no solution, that is far from "timely manner" for this problem. (As a mother with three small children in the car, the airbags are the most important safety feature)

A recall was sent out on 2023-05-10 NHTSA 23V334 for Driver Front Airbag Inflator May Rupture. It has almost been a year and a remedy is still not available. Safety Risk Description An inflator rupture may cause metal fragments to pass through the airbag and into the vehicle interior, which may result in injury or death to vehicle occupants. Based on the safety risk description this sounds pretty serious, and yet there is no remedy.

I was driving and all of a sudden my drivers seat started to move foward and down and then eventually reclined fully back and then stopped. Now my seat is permanently reclined. I could have been killed or seriously injured because the seat was moving while I was driving the car and I felt I could have been smushed into the steering wheel.

A few years ago I was driving home and both headlights of our GMC Acadia went out at the same time. I drove home, in the country, in total darkness. We had them replaced by the garage, which was very, very expensive due to extreme difficulty accessing the headlights for this model. Since then, we have had to replace them two more times which we did ourselves due to the cost. We have owned this car since it's been brand new and have always had issues with seeing in the dark. For the last several years, we have had teen drivers driving this car. My son is worried so we recently we had it in the shop to adjust the headlights. They actually made them worse, which we didn't think could happen. They said they had their best mechanic on it but because they were doing it during their office hours, all daylight they never could see it at night. We had to get it readjusted back to where it was just to see again but back to still no good. I started researching to see if others are having similar problems and it does look like there are many complaints about loose wires in the headlights & fuse box, or maybe something related to the computer? Some other years may have had a recall for this same problem. I really hope someone like you could investigate this. My husband is a retired state trooper and ready to get rid of this beautiful car just because the headlights!! We live in the country and our son is worried he will get in an accident or hit someone walking down the road at night beca

The recall is with the steering wheel air bag. If it goes off then the driver could possibly get injured or killed from metal fragments according to the recall letter that I received. The letter is dated June 10, 2023. If they can't come up with a fix then they should supply me with a vehicle that is safe. Seven months is way too long.

Recall number N232404980 has not been resolved yet on my 2016 GMC Acadia. Have not been contacted since the first letter from the manufacturer was sent out. Anytime I ask a dealership if the recall can be fixed I'm always told they are unable to get the part.

GM safety recall N232404980 received in June, 2023, states that fragments could may pass through the air bag which may result in injury or death to the occupants. As of 12/19/2023, GM is still saying that the parts to repair aren't available. Not acceptable.

I received notice of the recall on the airbag of my vehicle. I contacted the dealership and was informed I should contact GMC if I was concerned for my safety. I contacted GMC, explained my case and now several months down the road and I am still driving a vehicle that could explode in my face, quite literally, if anything happens. Although I can control my driving actions, I cannot control others. And as I try to be safe, it does not always allow for that concern. I bought this vehicle for my grandchild, and I am still limiting the use with her in it and trying to use other vehicles to protect her. This has caused more issues for my family than it has been worth owning this vehicle and GMC was not willing to assist in any way!!

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
