2016 Forest River Prime Time

Defect. Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Forest River Prime Time recreational trailers. The Federal Placard incorrectly states that the tire pressure should be 65PSI when the correct tire pressure is 80PSI. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."

Risk. The incorrect tire information may cause the operator to underinflate the tire, leading to premature tire wear and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy. Forest River will notify owners and will provide a corrected Federal Placard, free of charge. The recall began on July 24, 2018. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-862-1025. Forest River's number for this recall is 48-0756.

The contact owns a 2016 Forest River Prime time Crusader equipped with Trailer King tire, tire line not available, and tire size RST28/80r/16. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH the rear passenger side tire blew out and torn the flooring in the RV and the sliding. The contact replaced the tire. The RV was taken to the dealer for diagnosis and stated that a lift kit needed to be placed under the suspension. The RV was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that they're not required to perform NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V140000 (Equipment, Structure). The failure mileage was 500.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FOREST RIVER TRACER PRIME TIME (NA) EQUIPPED WITH GOODYEAR RADIAL TIRES, SIZE: ST205/75R14 (NA). WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE TRAILER. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WHO CAME OUT AND CHANGED THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE ON THE TRAILER. ON SEPTEMBER 4, 2019, THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE EXPLODED. LATER THAT DAY, THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE ALSO EXPLORED. THE TRAILER WAS TAKEN TO GOODYEAR AUTO SERVICE (LOCATED AT 50 N DOBSON RD, MESA, AZ 85201, (480) 962-4205) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE UNDERCARRIAGE, WEATHERPROOFING, AND STYROFOAM INSTALLATION NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE TRAILER WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT DECIDED TO CHANGE ALL FOUR TIRES ON HIS OWN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE AND TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN. *AS

THE EXTERNAL LED LIGHTING ON THIS AVENGER TRAVEL TRAILER WERE IN USE AND STARTED A FIRE THAT BURNED THROUGH THE PLASTIC CASING. THIS CAUSED THE AWNING ABOVE TO HAVE SMOKE DAMAGE. LUCKILY WE CAUGHT IT IN TIME THAT THE AWNING OR TRAILER DIDN'T CATCH ON FIRE WHICH WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A TOTAL LOSS OF A TRAILER.
