I bought the car in November, 2021. I had it immediately start to shudder, noticed that for example when I tried to accelerate especially in the midst of turning in the middle of a busy road at an intersection I would stall and lose the ability to move the car, then the hazard lights would never turn on, then lost power to the components of the car which used to function normally. I’m a single mom caring for a child who has multiple disabilities and needs much assistance in which we are still being tested and on waiting lists for, and the last year our car was overheating always, despite the amount of work and repairs that we have paid for and other organizations helped us with, which is more than the cost of the actual cars worth and before any of these faulty parts or builds were common knowledge and available, I was never aware of this. I had the car in to multiple mechanics and we were told they couldn’t find the problem. We’ve repaired up to 5 grand or more and have been having to drive with the heat on for the last year full blast and windows down. We’ve had heat sickness and thrown up or ended up having severe headaches and dehydration. We then had the loss of power worsen, til 2 months ago. It was dead one morning and after jumping it, I couldn’t get it in reverse, so pushed it out and then it wouldn’t go over 10-15 mph nor would the hazard lights work. I got it to Ogden Ford, who said it’s the dual clutch part. I had it replaced and came up with the near grand. We ha
MY VEHICLE HAS A FAULTY TRANSMISSION THAT HAS BEEN RECALLED BY NHTSA BUT MY VIN DOES NOT APPEAR ON DATABASE BUT YET I OWN THIS ITEM WITH ALL DEFECTS. THIS IS PROBABLY MY THIRD REQUEST TO APPEAL BUT I NEVER RECEIVE ANY POSITIVE RESPONSES. FOR EXAMPLE MY LAST REPLY WAS NOT AN ANSWER OR SOLUTION BUT INSTRUCTIONS TO SUBMIT A REPLY IF I HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE. IT WAS GROSSLY OVERLOOKED. I STATED THAT I HAVE EVERY ISSUE IN THE RECALL AND YET NO RESPONSE. I HAVE EVEN TAKEN TO FORD TO HAVE IT SERVICED AND ALL THEY DID WAS RESET A MODULE FOR $110 WHICH WHEN DRIVEN AFTER PICKUP OF SERVICE WAS NO DIFFERENT. I AM AGAIN REQUESTING THAT MY VEHICLE BE CONSIDERED FOR REPAIR.
My Ford Focus has a Steering Assist Fault. It failed in October 2022, and now I'm having to pay for replacement of the system because there is no recall on it for the Focus, unlike other models.
After the Stop Safely Now alert flashed I tried to get off a really busy street and my car turned off in the middle of traffic. I was blocking traffic and cars were trying to pass me on both sides forcing them to drive around my car using the oncoming lane. 3 men helped me by stopping traffic on both sides so that they could push my car off the street onto a church entrance driveway. This is the second time I have had my car stop dead in the middle of busy traffic. The first time I reported this very dangerous problem, my car stopped dead in the middle of a busy intersection.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The contact's daughter turned off and restarted the vehicle. The contact's daughter heard an abnormal sound coming from the transmission and turned off the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact stated that after the vehicle was towed to his residence, he started the vehicle and heard abnormal sounds coming from the transmission. The contact heard an abnormal opening and closing sound. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The diagnostic fee was not paid, and the contact was not provided information related to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact that the repair was not eligible under a Customer Satisfaction Program related to a transmission replacement. The contact was advised to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
The contact's mother owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that after coming to a complete stop and then attempting to accelerate, the vehicle failed to respond when the accelerator pedal was depressed. There was no warning light illuminated during the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was covered under an unknown recall campaign. After the recent failure, the contact was informed that the repair would be an out-of-pocket expense. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 64,812.
The canister purge valve has failed. Was not defective when recall #19S22 was performed. Car failed to start repeatedly and would not idle after refilling the tank from low (fuel light on) to approximately 75%. Eventually, the car did start and after keeping the RPMs at 2000 for a few minutes, the car is back to idling normally. Check engine light did not appear until 3 days after the stall at the gas station, which had a DTC P1450 code indicating inability for the car to bleed the fuel tank, suggesting the canister purge valve. Ford should offer the free replacement of the defective purge valve and inspection of the carbon canister and fuel tank even after the 19S22 recall was performed (which was just a software update and inspection at the time of service). The possibility of the car stalling not just at the gas station is a safety issue for others and the occupant because of the possibility of a sudden loss of power/becoming an obstruction/or abruptly stopping on the road.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that within 6 months of purchasing the vehicle new, the transmission made an abnormal grinding sound while driving. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that while accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle jerked and hesitated to respond. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving at various speeds. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the two internal clutches needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000.
This is the second time my 2013 Ford Focus EV has just shut down while traveling. This time in the middle of an intersection. A Stop Safely Now warning came on first and then, in the middle of a stop sign, after getting off a late afternoon busy highway, the car shut down and refused to move. I turned on my emergency flashers to keep people moving around my car.

I drove this car for intervals and then purchased it on 6/05/23 from a used car lot. It had no problems and ran very well. About a month or two later the transmission started to slip so I contacted the Goodyear shop we take our cars to. They told me that Ford had a recall on a transmission problem so I called the Ford dealer and made an appointment to bring it in for a computer recall on the trans. I am 84 yrs. old and was driving to the gas station for gas and the car stopped and inched into the station. I had it towed to Ford and it sat there until my appt. day and was told the computer on the outside of the trans was under warrenty not the trans and it would cost $9000. for a trans. No other trans shop would repair because all the computers are on backorder. The used car dealer nor I were ever notified about a recall, At least 5 yrs of Focus have this problem. Check all the complaints. It's unsafe and unfair.
The intermittent power steering issues are now permanent and it is extremely difficult to turn the wheel.

An independent mechanic came to inspect the vehicle and reset the transmission. The contact was able to drive the vehicle; however, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission unintendedly downshifted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and made contact with Customer Satisfaction Program 14M02 (Transmission Control Module Extended Warranty Coverage). The failure mileage was approximately 157,000.
Transmission shuddered on takeoff every time. It made it difficult on takeoff. It quit on a single lane road. It was at the dealership on 8-18-23. It was driven 356 miles. No fault lights ever come on until the transmission quit pulling. The lady at the dealership told me it might be the clutch and they could inspect it and replace the clutch for 3,100.00. I told her no on I think it’s bad.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while shifted into drive(D), the engine revved but the vehicle failed to accelerate. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.
The seatbelts in these cars do not retract. After it is buckled, it sits loose on the person wearing it. Is an accident, the seatbelt will provide no help, causing me, or one of my passangers to be hurt. 3 of the 4 belts in my car are basically useless. This is not only an issue in my car. I've noticed after working on several of these cars (ide assume from the years 2012-2018) they don't work. I have several friends and relatives with a model in between those years, and it can be duplicated in their cars too. This is a major issue, and needs to be addressed in all models of this vehicle

My car will intermittently lose power, such as in the middle of an intersection, or turning in front of another vehicle, which puts me and my children at risk. The transmission is throwing a code for overheating and malfunctioning, and there is an open customer satisfaction bulletin for the transmission control module, but Ford refuses to replace it because it’s not throwing “the correct code “ I have had the clutch replaced three times if not four in the time that I’ve had the vehicle and it’s more than frustrating. It’s dangerous along with losing power. It will intermittently catch the gear that is trying to shift into and cause the car to accelerate rapidly, the transmission, shutter control module and clutch have been an issue in this car, along with a class action lawsuit, and now Ford has had my vehicle for three weeks, and refuses to do the open service campaign for the TCM because of the code issue and it refuses to do the clutch because even though it was replaced three years ago, they state that the warranty is only for 12 months regardless of the fact that it was the fourth clutch that put in the car , I am working with someone at Ford warranty in hopes of getting them covered because I know they have done it in other cases, but I am more than frustrated with the service. I’ve received so far very unprofessional, which is unfortunate because overall I do love my car I would’ve kept it all this time if I didn’t I 10-year-old car should not have had to have the tran
Car was inspected by a Ford certified mechanic after issues arose. My car only has 24,000 miles on it. Was informed that it was the clutch in the transmission that needs replaced. Investigation into the problem I saw a recall referring to the clutching, but was not associated with the car I have. For it having low miles and the clutch going out on it already, seems a bit odd. The car cannot be driven until repairs get done as I do not want to be breaking down on the side of the road.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle started driving rough with the transmission warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered to cover a part of the cost for the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 64,533.
I'm not repeating everything for your website to erase it again. Duel clutch replacement every 20k miles and unsafe bad TCM behavior.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. As I was driving down the highway, my car stopped accelerating. I was able to pull over on the side of the road and waited about 5 minutes before cranking the car again. After I started back driving, the car started to jerk every time it shifted. I took it to the mechanic and was informed that is was my clutch. They tried to fix it but the clutch was broken and I needed my entire transmission replaced. I paid $4000 to get it replaced, only for the same thing to happen 4 months later. I have not replaced it the second time.

In Jan/Feb 2023, my 16 year old was driving her 2013 ford focus which we have had problems after problems… this particular time she was at a red light and it would not go! She quickly put in park and switched back to drive and it went… a day or 2 passed and it did it again and started shifting gears weird and jerking at certain speeds! Took it to the mechanic he basically said he wouldn’t touch it because of how crappy and complicated these transmissions are… but he did run codes and to a transmission flush! That didn’t do any good… I started researching and low and be ahold find out that this is a know issue with these cars! And guess what my “extended warranty” expired less than 2 months prior to this! Ford would not help me what do ever! I contacted the manufacturer and the dealerships! They want to charge a diagnostic fee and everything!! Then last week I get a letter in the mail stating they would do a one time replacement on the TCM now until 2025! Ok that’s fine and all but at this point I don’t know if I even trust this car for my daughter to drive! I have been reading all the horror stories! If I could afford to get her a new one I would but I’m a single mom with one income! I think ford needs to own up to this and buy back these lemons and make it right!!!
We bought a used car,as is, and had no problem. Approx 6 wks later it had trouble going into park and were told (by our technician) there was a recall on a computer. Made an appt. with the dealer and on the day it was to go in husband went to get gas the transmission failed so we had AAA tow it to them. They then told us the entire transmission failed and there was no warranty. We learned there was a nationwide problem with the computers. We never, nor did the dealer we purchased it from ever receive a notice from Ford that there was a recall on the outer computer. If they had done that the transmission could have been saved. I contacted Ford and was told to go back to the dealer they were doing nothing, The car sits in our driveway. This is not the only year Ford had a problem with Ford Focus transmissions. They should do something. We were quoted $9000, for a new transmission. Being on social security and a small pension we can't afford it and a used transmission is not feasible because of the major problems with the trans.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would not properly accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. Additionally, the vehicle occasionally stalled while at a stop light and while decelerating. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who replaced the transmission, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 10,000.
The transmission and the clutch are faulty from when they were originally made. I had it diagnosed at a ford dealership. I have taken it into the shop 3+ times and have spent thousand to fix it. My car is an automatic, but it shifts gears like it’s a manual. The “faulty transmission” alert will show up without warning and my car won’t start leaving me stranded. I’ve had to tow it twice. The car is unreliable and unsafe. It begins to shift even worse right before the “faulty transmission” alert then it won’t start. It’s acting up right now and I’m afraid.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle started shuddering and lost motive power. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled off the roadway and the vehicle stalled. The contact did not attempt to restart the vehicle to prevent engine damage. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the Transmission Control Module (TCM) unit needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that the TCM was on a national backorder. The contact researched online and found Manufacturer Customer Satisfaction Program: 14M02 (Power Train). The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.
I was driving and all of a sudden a loud bang was heard which made me shocked and frightened. I realized after I pulled over that my moonroof had shattered completely. Knowing nothing had fallen on it or was thrown. I called Ford about the issue and they refuse to do anything about it. I also made an insurance claim which has been not addressed.
On 5/25/23, I came out of my work’s office building on my lunch break. My car seemed to not accelerate, however I was able to pull out and proceed on to the roadway. Unbeknownst, my car would not accelerate past 5 MPH. I tried to turn around as I was entering a busy highway, and I was unable to reverse, leaving my car stuck as I hit a curb, as cars whizzed by me. I kept restarting my car and eventually I was able to push my car over to curb, and proceed at 5 MPH (the most my car would go), back to my office parking lot. I have a small child and almost caused a 4-car accident due to Ford’s faulty transmission manufacturing which was confirmed by a mechanic that I had the car towed to. I was informed there is a buy-back and recall for the TCM for this car, and I need to take it to Ford for repair. I was not informed of this when I bought the car. I will be taking my car to Ford tomorrow, towed. The fact this is not a safety recall is absolutely sickening and I just thank God I wasn’t with my child at the time of the transmission failure. I am in disbelief. The average person, would have no idea what was going on with the car, as I didn’t.
My daughter-in-law's 2013 Ford Focus SE started experiencing hesitations and slow/no acceleration. As she was driving, the car suddenly would not go above 30mph and the "check engine" light illuminated. OBD codes P2831, P2832, and P287b are present. She is the 2nd owner and the car only has 56,000 miles. The Transmission Control Module (TCM) appears to be the issue and the replacement should be free under Ford Customer Satisfaction Program 14M02 (10yrs/150,000miles). Ford issued a "Manufacture Communication" about this very serious safety problem instead of a Recall, which is why she was not notified of this dangerous problem. The "warranty in service date" on this car is March 2013 which means the car is less than 2 months over the 10 year limit, but is 99,000 miles under the mileage cap. I talked to Ford customer care this morning and they told me that Ford would not cover this because it is 2 months beyond the 10 year cap. I am extremely disappointed that Ford is not willing to stand behind their product and fix this potentially deadly problem that customers do not know about because of Ford's lack of direct communication. Instead she's looking at a $900 repair bill.
On 4/20/23 while driving home from work on the highway my car stalled and after pulling over would not start. The check engine ight had come one. On 4/21/23 I took my car to a mechanic who found the p0456 fault in the PCM which was tied to an active recall on my vehicle. The mechanic printed out the recall information and recommended replacing the cannister purge valve, fuel tank and fuel pump assembly. They suggested I take it to the local ford dealer to have the recall work done as it would be covered. On 4/27/23 I took my car to the dealership to have the recall work done. The dealer reprogrammed the PCM and replaced the vapor canister purge solenoid. On 5/15/23 while driving home from work on the highway my car stalled again and after pulling over would not start. The fuel tank has deformed, but less than the 1 inch ford is requiring to replace it and the distance to empty is still inaccurate. On 5/16 I dropped the car back off at the dealer. They looked at the car the next day and refused to address the outstanding issues.
Clutch Assembly
There was a past recall for the purge valve canister and the fuel pump and I was never notified from Ford about the recall when it was open. Now they are asking me to pay out of pocket for these repairs the dealership is asking $1400 to repair. Ford shoild honor there recalls even if the recall is closed. Now that I have the problem with the fuel system it is affecting my fuel tank as well. I have been buying Ford cars for over 20 years. The least they can do is offer financial assistance. If this is affecting my fuel tank now my car can catch on fire. I can't drive my vehicle more than two miles before it starts to slow down. At the time of the recall my vehicle had 83,000 miles. it now has 140,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while his son was driving 20 MPH, the vehicle stalled in the middle of the intersection with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that his son was able to restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle would not accelerate above 5 MPH. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed with a defective transmission control module. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure, and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under recall or warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.
While driving at approximately 60 mph on a highway in the passing lane, the engine shut off without warning, and the following lights appeared on the dash: check engine, ABS, and traction control. The speedometer needle also went down to zero. I was in the process of passing a tractor trailer, and another tractor trailer was right behind me. I was barely able to maneuver off the highway onto the left shoulder and was almost rear-ended by the tractor trailer. The lack of power steering made it extremely difficult. This is a major safety issue. My family was in the car with me. After sitting on the side of the highway, I was able to start the engine and drive home. I arrived home and tried to back into my driveway, but it would not go into reverse. I took the car to the local Ford dealer and I was told the TCM needs to be replaced for around $750. I asked about the recall and they said that it expired in October of 2022. I did not know that recalls had an expiration date. After reading through many other complaints on the NHTSA website for the 2013 Focus, it seems that I have purchased a lemon. I just bought this vehicle in January at 57000 miles and have only put around 5000 miles on it. I still owe $9700 on the loan and the vehicle is undriveable. The manufacturer needs to buy this vehicle back so that I can purchase a replacement vehicle.
Driving on the highway car started to make a loud noise when I tried to accelerate I couldn’t then I lost power, lucky I was near the breakdown lane. I pulled over no warning lights ever came on started up again put gear in drive and it wouldn’t move only worked in reverse. I just found out that the control module was recalled last November but I was never contacted.
The steering wheel wants to lock up as you make a turn either left or right

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
