I have a 2012 Ford Focus with transmission issues. It shudders when taking off, loses power when shifting and doesn't shift correctly. We have had overheating issues and stalling and not starting issues. It has to do (with my understanding) of the type of transmission they used in these vehicles.

Car will not go in reverse. Code shows actuator clutch stuck. Replaced actuator. Repair shop suggested TCM, but was able to reset TCM and reverse worked once, but while in reverse, shifter will slip into N and D with just a tap, and no button depression. It only responded once, and now code is back. Unsafe by not being able to reverse out of harms way, and while in reverse can go into N or D inadvertently.

Automatic transmission on 2012 Ford Focus SEL hatchback has been stalling. I drive on heavily traveled highways, leading me to be at risk of a major traffic accident if my car loses power. Transmission also whine and grinds really hard. Dealership is aware of the issue, but refuses to recall these faulty transmissions, leaving several thousands of people at risk of losing power and getting hit. Has been inspected by the dealer and multiple mechanics, all point to transmission issues from a faulty factory clutch system.
I started feeling the transmission having problems going into 1st or 2nd. started right when I hit 90,000 miles. It would shutter like there wasn't enough power but only in lower gears. I've had the car since 2013 and now I have to be extra careful when I put the car in reverse because if the shifter is hit, it will slide the car into either neutral or drive, depending if the shifter is hit up or down. I was never contacted about a a transmission issue by Ford or my dealership. If this is a problem with Ford Focus 2012-2018 then why are customers not being contacted regarding this safety issue.

My car is experiencing identical problems to recall # 19v515000. The gas tank has collapsed and purge valve has failed causing the car to stall. But, my vin does not match the recall. Clearly, this recall has to be expanded to include other vehicles if I am experiencing identical failures. Ford has refused to do anything because the vin does not match.

Transmission slipping issues on acceleration
While driving the vechicle it has problems accelerating and dies out in traffic to a rolling stop. I had the car diagnosed at a Ford dealership near me and was told it would be worse senario approx. $6500 to repair and that is because part of the transmission is $4000 alone. Despite the transmission issues reported on this vehicle the dealership would not comp any fixes. When in reality my problem is the same as many other owners that reported this issue. The difference is the car is newer to me but was previously owned. This is bad that Ford released a faulty transmission and leaves the owners with the burdon to repair.
A couple weeks ago leaving work a warning light came on that the power steering assist was disabled/malfunctioning, to have it serviced. It became prohibitively difficult to steer my car. I called AAA and had it towed to an independent service center. They reported that the steering module, essentially the computer brain for the steering, has failed. The repair is overwhelmingly expensive, and I haven’t pursued it due to the crippling cost. When I proceeded to drive the car home, the light was off, and it drove fine. One of the shops I spoke with said this could happen, but it would come back unpredictably, and intermittently until it just won’t be drivable. I’m just glad it was in a safe spot when this failure occurred. Reports I’ve been reading online have scared me with drivers being on the freeway when this component fails, nearly causing accidents in some cases. This seems like a serious safety issue, and certainly not a ‘wear and tear’ issue of daily use. The shop reported the repair would cost $2400 before taxes. I bought this car used for $5000 last year, and so far have had to put in a whole new front end, replace the cooling/ heating reservoir system. So throwing in that much more money into it is having a very negative impact on my livelihood. Other drivers report this issue occurring at anywhere from 60,000 miles to 150,000 miles. My car is at 128,000 miles.
My wife was pulling out from grocery store into highway when car jerked and almost stalled out!

When i got to accelerate car will rev to high rpms and when i let go of the gas pedal it will shift to nxt gear then do it again, i have to let go of the gas pedal for it to shift correctly
When starting the car, the message displays "steering assist fault. Service required". The entire power assistance is not functional. The car can be manually steered under heavy effort. This issue came and went multiple times. Some times, the steering system started to work and all was good. Other times, there was no recovery. The last time the issue occured was while driving down the road. The message appeared and the power assist was gone. It has not come back online. It did not cause an accident as I was able to manually force the steering to do what I needed to exit the road safely. It appears reading online that the only recourse is to replace the entier system requiring the removal of the rack and pinon and the front assembly sub frame. Estimate costs are over $3000 and it must be done at Ford as it needs software to work correctly. This does not seem reasonable for a car with only 120,000 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to respond while in reverse. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED TO OPERATE SEVERAL TIMES AND GET STUCK PERIODICALLY. TOTALLY IMPAIRED VISION IN RAIN. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR AGO AND THEY COULD NOT FIND THE ISSUE TO RESOLVE. THEY REPLACED WITH NEW WINDSHIELD WIPERS WHICH WE HAD JUST REPLACED 1 MONTH PRIOR. THEY TRIED TO ADJUST THE PLACEMENT OF THE WIPERS BUT THIS DID NOT FIX IT. THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY ANY OTHER DEALER OR SERVICE CENTER. THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE ON ONLINE SITES AND FORUMS WITH NO REAL SOLUTIONS PREVALENT. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY MALFUNCTION THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND RECALLED BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND FIND A SOLUTION BEFORE ANY FATALITIES HAPPEN. THIS CAR IS DRIVEN BY MY UNDERAGE, NEW DRIVER! EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD!! NO LIGHTS, WARNING LAMPS OR PROBLEMS PRIOR TO FAILURE.
Was driving down the highway at 65 mph and went to accelerate and the transmission dropped out of gear and would not catch could not accelerate all you could hear is car reving in rpm was almost in a accident no warning light came on. Transmission has spontaneously went from overheating to not while driving, gears are slipping have speed and when it goes to shift all power lost, then it kicks back in. Electrical power Steering assist malfunctioning
After starting the vehicle I had no power steering. I drove the car all the way home with no power steering. I shut down the car at home and restarted it and then the power steering worked. I’m very worried about others in my family driving this car and having an accident. This has happened in the past but after moving the car it would start working but not this time. I haven’t taken it to any dealer yet but I think Ford should fix this problem
While driving transmission seems to start to slip and then fails. Upon further research, found that there is a known issues with the TCM on vehicle. This issue came about while driving in traffic and could have caused an accident when the transmission stopped working if I was unable to get into a parking lot before it stopped working.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
