Owner reports filed with NHTSA about this vehicle, newest first and reproduced as filed. They are unverified accounts: one proves nothing, and a pattern across many is the thing worth reading. Back to the full 2021 record →
I am writing to submit a formal complaint concerning a persistent and costly issue with the 2021 Ford F-250 and models from previous and newer years, specifically related to the roof molding. It has come to my attention that numerous owners of these vehicles, including myself, are facing significant financial burdens due to a design flaw that necessitates the replacement of the roof molding. The core of the issue lies in the fact that replacing the roof molding is not a straightforward task; it requires the removal of the rear window, which significantly escalates the cost and complexity of what should be a simple repair. The trim pieces alone are priced at approximately $125 per side, not including labor costs, which can be substantial given the necessity to remove and reinstall the rear window. Given the frequency and consistency of these complaints across multiple owners and vehicles, it is evident that this is a widespread defect rather than isolated incidents. The financial impact on consumers is considerable, making it an urgent matter that I believe warrants a recall. As a safety and regulatory body, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has the responsibility to ensure that manufacturers like Ford address such defects that not only impose undue financial strain on consumers but may also pose potential safety risks associated with improper installations or failures of the molding in question. I urge the NHTSA to initiate an investigation into this
My F250 was in service for fuel system replacement and to fix both side mirrors which wouldn’t go down after going up. Shortly afterwards I noticed the rapid turn signal you get when tail lights are out. This happened while using a trailer. The trucks rear lights weren’t working at all but trailer lights were. Also was getting the blinds spot and cross traffic alert faults on instrument panel. Dropped off for service. They found a loose trailer plug and reset some things and got it all working again. Soon after the blinkers would flash fast again meaning lights were out, but would quickly stop and back to normal. Later they stayed blinking fast and tail lights out again after stopping starting several times. I tried plugging in my trailer wire harness and it tail lights started working again on truck?? 2 days later Im using trailer again, truck tail lights quit working and getting blind spot and cross traffic fault alerts again!! Still not working after 3 days. had my trailer lights tested where i bought it, they used a battery powered tester found no fault and trailer lights all worked correctly no shorts in system. During times when faults occurred both my enclosed trailer and my rv back up lights would stay on constantly even when not in reverse! Trailers turn signal, brake and tail lights worked but not truck tail lights. No back up no brakes or signal. Just the license plate lights. WHY IS IT EVEN LEGAL TO BUILD A VEHICLE WHERE YOU LOSE USE OF TAIL LIGHTS IF YOUR OPTIONA

Brought truck into Hansel Ford Dealership in Santa Rosa CA for recall issues, oil change and then an issue with Horn. Horn would not turn off, even with truck off. Had to disconnect battery and take fuse out for horn. Was told by Hansel that there is an issue with this but its not a recall issue. The BJB Box had moisture inside and needed replacing. Our mileage was just outside original manufacturer warranty by I believe 900 miles. We had also purchased an extended warranty. Extended warranty will not cover. I would like FORD to pay for this issue as we arent the only ones. 2022 Ford F250 . Truck is STILL at the dealership.

My truck currently has 92,305 miles and are all highway miles. This truck is not used for towing outside of the weight rating. The issue is that there was a vibration when I reached speeds of 65mph and higher. The dealer states that the rear end has excessive back lash, excessive wear in the ring and pinion gears and metal shavings in the rear differential fluid. Ford's rear differential service recommendation is 100,000 miles which I have not reached. I'm now required to pay over $3200 in repairs for the carrier bearings, hub bearings, pinion bearings, seals and rings plus the transmission fluid. Based on my driving habits, I do not think this issue is something that I caused, I believe it to be a Ford issue which they deny. I have read many blogs online where other owners have this same issue and someone needs to look into it further.
A 26000 miles the cp4 fuel pump failed and stranded my family (on the busiest road) in Colorado while pulling a trailer. This is a known problem, with multiple manufactures, for more than a few years. Yet here we are!?

Head light housing retains moisture on the inside of the lens both headlights on truck. May be causing shortage of the wires
Vehicle surging accelerator Acts like lake of air theb shoots off
While driving, rear window spontaneously exploded. Entire glass broke out of frame. Not while hitting bump or any other unusual concussions made to vehicle. No rear defroster on. Car has under 5,000 miles. We had for over 2 years, only used rarely.
Driving about 60MPH hit a small bump on the Freeway and the death Wobble happened. Almost lost control of the truck and trailer. slowed down and it stopped, checked for a blow out and nothing, continued down the freeway again small bump and the wobble started again.
Shocks rear are showing licking with in one year. Of ownership.
During towing of 10,000lb trailer, the trailer brakes cut out during heavy braking and the dash displayed "wiring fault". Also, sometimes during normal braking, the trailer brakes will cut in and out, if you watch the gain meter during these episodes, the gain meter will also cut in and out. My and my families safety was definitely put at risk and now we were fully dependent on only the truck brakes to stop our vehicle and trailer. The dealer checked the vehicle on 5/9/23 and say there is nothing wrong with the truck. There is an active safety recall (22S17) covering trailer brake controllers for Super Duty vehicles, however, it seems to be limited to model year 2022, even though my vehicle was built at the same plant during the same time period covering this recall. I intend to have the dealer perform the required repair at my expense, and hopefully this recall will be expanded to cover my model year. This is a very dangerous situation.
Headlights are blinding on F-250s seems all late model Ford F-250, all models seems they always are on bright when at intersectionn across from one it's blinding to see anything else even when driving and the F-250 are coming at you blinding
2021 FORD F-250. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO DEFECTIVE MIRRORS.
Wiper blade arm has became inoperable it separates from the vehicle there fore making it difficult to see in rain which I get a lot of in my area
The front camera has a foggy spot that triggers the front pre-collision assist and related safety devices to not function properly. It is available for inspection. t has not yet been inspected by dealer. The warning lamps and related messages do warn of problem. Fords has recalled rear cameras for fogginess, but obviously the front camera preventing collisions is a much greater safety issue.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-250. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V250000 (Visibility) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. Driven on freeway hit 65 speed start shaking every time. I have to slow down
Rear window across back of cab shattered for no apparent reason while traveling down the road. Contacted dealership and ford warranty and they said this was not a warranty issue. The truck only has 13,000 miles. I feel this is a defective product .
This is what happen Thursday Night to my Truck sitting in my drive way. My entire wiring harness on the drivers side was under water.. I drove it to the dealership and it was still pouring water from the rear plugs. I have rubber floor mats and wouldn't have even noticed the issue if I didn't pull them to clean the truck. There are tons of truck having this issue. to fix it properly the bed has to be taken off the truck. The insurance company's total cars for electrical being covered in water. This is a recall issue Ford Surly needs to address and fix. Go look at this video fast forward to the 4 minute mark. https://youtu.be/9azod47j8KM
Both Woodruff keys have fallen out of the windshield wiper arms where they attach to the wiper linkage. Without the Woodruff keys in place during operation, the windshield wipers easily detach from the wiper linkage. This causes an immediate loss of visibility and dramatically increases the likelihood of an accident or possibly a fatality involving both the driver & any passengers in the vehicle, and also endangers surrounding vehicles as well. Ford has known about the issue since early 2022 and a recall notice was sent out in early 2022 as well. Now that 2023 is upon us, Ford has done nothing to repair the vehicles as part of this recall. How many deaths does it take for the NHSTA to enforce manufacturer recall repairs within acceptable timelines ?

While driving on State highway 59, a small bump in the road sent the truck into a violent shake where I almost lost control of the vehicle. This violent shake is and can be life threatening to my family and I, as well as nearby others. Now Ford is charging me for fixing the life-threatening defect. It does not seem right that Ford by their defect threaten my family life with a year-old car and I have to pay for the fix.
On 11/1/2022 I was exiting the freeway at approximately 60 mph. When I went over the seam between the exit ramp and the service ramp the truck started shaking violently (also known as the "Death Wobble"). I immediately hit the brakes and slowed the vehicle to 30 mph and the shaking stopped. This issue is widely reported all over discussion boards on the internet and I cannot believe you haven't required Ford to fix this.
While Driving down the highway at ~75 MPH, the highway had a bit of a bumpy patch and when the truck went over this bumpy section of road the steering wheel started to wobble horribly and uncontrollably. It felt like a harmonic imbalance in the front end and continued until slowing down and pulling over. This is a very dangerous situation when this problem occurs- the vehicle cannot be effectively controlled. When I returned home I researched this condition and come to find out this issue is well known as the "F250 Death Wobble". We should all be ashamed that a car company was allowed to ignore this and not issue a recall. They know exactly what the issue is and chose not to fix it. I'm sure the bean counters at Ford figured that the number of deaths caused by this issue and paying the ensuing lawsuits was more cost effective than fixing the issue via a recall. It's really sad that Ford is getting away with this. Help the people. Thank you. [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
I bought this truck used with 20K miles on it, after only two days of driving it. I was in the credit union parking lot, started it up, foot on the brake, put the truck in drive and it Leaped Forward. I had to jump harder on the break to stop the motion. I almost hit the truck crossing in front of me. If he was heading the other direction and closer to me, I would have easily hit him. This morning 28 Oct 2022, I stopped at the gas station and filled up and the same thing happened when leaving the station, but no one else was around.
I have experienced the “death wobble” on (5) different occasions driving on highways and/interstate roads. I have contacted a Ford dealership and been told that they have not heard of this happening with the 2021 vehicles. I had to take it to an automotive mechanic shop to ask them and they said that they have numerous customer complaints of exact death wobble incident. No visible and obvious looseness in any ball joint was found today when placed on repair rack. This same issue was present in a 2017 f250 that Ford finally enacted a recall for repairs in years past. This is a horrible problem. It is definitely a problem. Why would Ford be allowed to not correct this problem prior to major injury or deaths occur. This is an absolute disgrace. I spent $50 at a mechanic shop today and just placed an order with Superlift Suspensions in West Monroe, LA for a, recently designed, dual steering stabilizer for $325 in an attempt to not die at the wheel due to loss of control while driving. Additional expense will be incurred to have said steering stabilizer installing hopes of avoiding a major accident at legal rates of speed. PLEASE require that Ford Motor Company correct this problem. It is ridiculous to have to spend money and time away from work on an issue that is without a doubt, obvious and real. It was a problem with past Ford F250 trucks such as my 2017. It is a problem as well in the 2021 F250 trucks and for Ford to not acknowledge this is unacceptable.
When towing a trailer, the Trailer brakes stop working. the brakes, using the pedal and lights all work perfectly on truck and trailer. But if you squeeze the brake control paddles, you immediately get a trailer disconnected message and although all lights still work, the brake controller does NOT. Then sometimes, just driving and perhaps stopping at a gas station, the trailer brakes also stop working and you don't realize until going down a hill. This has happened multiple times. I start out just fine and then ?
The contact owns a 2021 Ford F-250. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V250000 (Visibility) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
At 65 + MPH my truck experienced high speed wobble, it made me slow down in the fast lane to around 40 MPH to get vehicle under control and move to right lanes. Steering wheel was out of control and wobbles shaking the instrument display was unable to see any display because of buffering, this is the 3rd time it has happened and have 42k miles on vehicle.
I was driving on the highway with 3 other passengers, at around 75 mph when my steering wheel started to shake wildly and my truck started to shake violently, to the point of almost losing control. I let off the gas and changed lanes to the right and breaked hard to a stop on the shoulder. I got out and inspected all 4 tires, expecting to see a front tire flat… but everything looked fine. I got back in and truck and drove off. Everything seemed normal. Friend from work explained about Ford Truck’s and Jeep’s infamous “Death Wobble.” Freaked me out, and scared the crap out of the other adult passengers. This worries me for my upcoming family road-trip.
While I was driving on the highway my hood popped up thankfully the safety catch held it but it was very unnerving I haven't been able to recreate the problem
When traveling on the highway at speeds above 65 mph, a slight bump in the road would take control over the steering wheel and cause the steering wheel and whole truck to shake uncontrollably. Braking would only prolong the shake. Only by slowing down to 45mph or lower, by taking foot off the gas, would the shaking stop. The process repeats at the next uneven pavement it encounters. I have multiple videos that I can share, but this site will not let me upload. This felt very unsafe and luckily I was the only car on the road at the time or the outcome may have been different.
6/25/22 around 5:30PM, my 2021 F250 7.3 gas engine with 10k miles experienced sudden unintended acceleration. At McDonald’s pickup window foot firmly on brake pedal, my truck felt like it was being pushed away from window. Truck got up to speed of approx. 5 mph and moved forward around 30 feet, shifted truck out of drive and RPMs when up to 5k. Foot was on brake pedal the entire time. Turned truck off and walked around truck to confirm no damage, problem has not yet happened again.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
