The car was smoking whitish gray smoke. I had something repaired. About 3 week later the smoke returned. Took to dealership told it needed an engine. Given a price of $14,000. With that info my car has been parked. I never received info that ford had a class action about engines until a month ago. Please advise.

The low coolant level came on the car. We were told that they sensor needed to be replaced. We paid $1500 to replace that. The low coolant level light has back on 5 times, then the check engine light comes on and the car shuts off. It has left me, and my daughter stranded on the side of the road and in the middle of the highway. We were told they are not sure what else to do, here is a bottle of coolant from the dealership and keep bringing it back in. Next issues are it won't go over 20 MPG, my daughter was crossing a major highway, she lost power and the car started to shake. We are now told that it is the transmission. There was a recall replaced on it back in 2023. Not happy at all with ford and very unsafe.

My car has a bad failure of the head gasket. Coolant leaking into cylinder 3 and 2 and using up my coolant. This has been ongoing despite me having had the recalls done to it for the coolant system. This is a pervasive, prevalent and common issue with these Ecoboost engines. I have spoken with many people who have this same issue. It happens subtly and then gets much worse. Causing overheating and undue wear on the cylinder walls. For the first year of the problem beginning, there were no check engine lights associated with it. But it recently has started throwing cylinder 3 misfire codes as a result of this problem. This has been checked by a mechanic and the dealer refuses to repair or replace the head gasket or engine due to no recall for the head gasket being made, however there is at least one or two service bulletins put out by Ford about it. This is putting me and my family at risk of being stranded on the road somewhere, ancient failure at highway speeds and unreliable equipment to keep us safe.

I have had the same AC Line replaced in my car on six different occasions by three different mechanics. Part number: CV6Z19D742F. Today I was told by Ford that it is just a faulty/bad part design and there’s not much I can do short of getting a new car. Very disappointed this is the answer I got after spending nearly $1,000 on fixing this problem.

The problem first arose as the car started going through engine coolant very quickly. Usually the warning would come up saying the engine coolant was low. I would refill, but the car would need more within a day or two. So, I scheduled an appointment to get it checked. In the meantime, I would refill every time the warning came on. Soon after, as we were waiting for the appointment, and as my wife, infant son, and I were driving (with no warning of low coolant), the engine overheated and the car started shaking and would not respond (with a warning that said to pull over safely). Thankfully, we were on side streets in a neighborhood. But with no warning of low coolant beforehand, this is absolutely a safety issue.

I know there was a cyber-attack, it is all very bad timing. Disclaimer. I did educate myself. Door latch broke on rear drivers side and currently 6/22/2024 my door will not close and it's being held shut with ratchet straps. It did not have a warning beforehand, just a rattle. I thought the rattle was another issue but it wasn't. I was told by my mechanics during inspection there was a recall, also my car insurance. Granted I didn't immediately jump on it. My mother owned the car before me, she took the letters to a Ford Dealership in Barre/Montpelier, she was completely dismissed. After I took the car over a few years ago, I got a couple letters but nothing in the last year. I do take my part of the responsibility for not fixing it sooner. My mom was dismissed so I kind of was weary that I would be too. Now, I feel like it was warranted. 3 out of 4 were NOT able to confirm the recall but the last one I called NuCar in St. Albans VT was able to look it up. Now I question the other dealerships. I called 4 Ford dealerships, ALL but ONE was willing to help me. I am supposed to go Monday 6/24/2024 to NuCar in St. Albans VT. I had to explain it's a safety issue, my child is in the car with me, I drive the interstate to work and I have no other means of travel. I'm a single mother, no money, wasn't even offered a rental. I can't understand why when there isn't a computer, there's no will? Backup protocol? I was offered a courtesy shuttle with no guarantee that I'd get a ride home.

Check engine light in 2023 for P1299, Cylinder head overtemperature protection code. Coolant was heavily leaking, and engine overheated while in use on the interstate highway. I had a red error message telling me to immediately pull over and shut the vehicle off, which I did. I called for roadside service and had my coolant topped in a safe location. Car was towed to the dealership where a leak was found as well as a crack in the degass bottle engine mount, which sprayed coolant directly onto the engine. The degass bottle and mount were replaced, and the issue was fixed. Now, in 2024, I pulled a P2681 engine light error for an issue with the coolant bypass valve. I drove the car into the same dealership, where they're currently assessing it for issues. Mentioned that the coolant bypass solenoid is out of spec for a resistance issue and needs to be replaced, otherwise the engine will overheat due to improper temperature regulation. Both issues above have been confirmed by Ford mechanics, and neither issues have pulled recalls, though this seems to be reminiscent of a 17S09 recall with coolant sensor issues, engine cylinder head overheating, and subsequent leaks.

Unknown. Something at the backside of the motor caught on fire. The car overheated and would not drive. Pulled over, cooled off, added coolant, drove home. Car won't go over 40, shakes, and makes noises. Took it to automotive place. They took the manifold(?) and stopped! Called and told us there had been a fire in the motor, we need to call our insurance company and take it to a Ford dealership. Warranty and insurance company are both fighting with us. Neither one wants to pay!!! This is total BS!!!! No recalls?! Google this cars problems and their #1 problem is they catch on fire!!! WHY IS THERE NO RECALLS?!?!? I've had the Vapor Canister Purge valve replaced 3 times due to it causing the car to not start. Now I have a broken nipple on the bottom hose. I don't understand why there is a recall for the same problem on 2012-2018 Ford Focus 2.0 due to a potential malfunctioning Canister Purge valve. Ford Reference #18S32. I will now have to get it placed for the 4th time and also the part that the bottom hose attaches to. If it had been recalled and a proper fix in place then I wouldn't be going through this a 4th time. On that recall dealers will reprogram power train control module with new software that will detect a malfunctioning Canister Purge valve and prevent a potential excessive fuel vapor system vacuum condition from occurring. Dealers will inspect and replace the canister Purge valve, carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module, as necessary. There will be no charge for these services. Why aren't the 2014 Escapes with 2.0 engine being recalled as well? There are many Ford forums with the same Escape problem. When I ask the dealership its always sorry just save your receipts. For what when it doesn't run anymore. Do I get a medal for the most Purge Canister valve replacements. It is really a problem when you're stranded because after you fill up it won't start. I'm sure my car has the rest of the problems of the 2.0 Ecoboost recalls like leaking coolant. But what forever reason its always other models even though many have all the same issues as the lawsuits do.

Brought in vehicle for service. Was told the tires couldn’t be rotated because of “swollen lug nuts”. I would be responsible for replacing all 20 at a cost of around $180.00 for the parts. The dealership said if I should happen to get a flat tire, I would not be able to do it and the car would most likely need to be towed. I don’t think I should have to pay for this repair on an item so basic and so important. I have not had an issue until the dealer brought it to my attention. I spoke with Ford customer service and was told this is out of warranty and there was no way to escalate my concern at Ford.

The power steering assist has begun to randomly stop working. It has happened 3 times. The first time it happened was as soon as I started the car to move it. I turned the car off and turned it back on and it worked. 5 starts later the same problem occurred and I was able to restart the car and it worked. Approximately 7 starts after that the power steering assist stopped working again, but this time it was not as soon as the vehicle was started. This time it went out mid turn as I began turning onto the road. Each time the warning came up on the dash after the steering became difficult. The power steering assist randomly going out while driving puts the safety of myself, my passengers, and other cars at risk for a crash from the sudden change in ability to steer the vehicle. At this time the vehicle has not been taken into a service center because it is not a consistent problem and if they don't find the problem on the first try they will charge a diagnostic fee to tell me that "everything is fine" or "we can't find the problem" and I am not willing to pay them money for no work. Once was a fluke, twice was a coincidence, three times is a problem that makes this vehicle unsafe to drive. Ford has had a recall on previous model years for this same issue.

I have maintained my vehicle as I always have with previous autos in the past. In 11/22 I had to replace the transmission, which left me 6k+ in debt. My auto is now seemingly going into limp mode for no reason whatsoever and just shutting off while driving. This almost caused an accident, there was NO forewarning of any mechanical issues prior to it doing this. The check engine light came on, rpm’s declined, tried to move to side of the road by pressing gas pedal with no acceleration. Shut car off, called a tow truck mechanic could not diagnose any problem. Since this first incident it has happened almost everytime I’ve driven it. This last time left me and my dog on side of road, unable to move to safe place due to no acceleration with gas pedal. My car is now leaking oil once parked, there’s oil all over hood and internal parts of car, auto is now spuddering with intermittent bursts of power. I’ve never had as many issues with a vehicle as I have with my ‘14 Ford escape ecoboost titanium suv. Upon researching common problems with this year and make this is a MAJOR COMMON ISSUE. For an auto to be “known” for these mechanical issues, these should be ALL covered by the manufacturer!! My vehicle has a severe oil leak, including leaks at the T valve, vacuum pumps, and transmission fluid. My local garage said this should be covered under the Ford Escape Oil Leak recall, but Ford said it is not. The Ford dealership in Bridgeport, CT, said they were unaware of any oil leak issues with the 2014 Escape, which was not part of the recall. They asked for $3000.00 to cover repairs and said they could not guarantee that the issue would be corrected entirely. My local garage said the vehicle should not be driven as the issue can cause the car to catch fire. I have seen many recalls on the Ford Escape for the problem below. Ford Escape Recall: Certain vehicles with 1.5L engines may have vulnerable engine oil separator housing that can crack and allow oil to leak. A fire can occur if fuel leaks onto an ignition source at high temperatures. Ford states that at least four drivers experienced car fires within five minutes of shutting down the engines in their vehicles. It is disappointing that Ford does not own up to this oil leak issue in their vehicles. I have had nothing but problems with my 2014 Ford Escape. The repair costs are incredibly high. I am making car payments on a vehicle that I can no longer drive due to the dangers of a possible car fire. In addition, Ford knows this is an issue but has not issued a recall for my Ford 2014 vehicle. This is very disheartening as it shows they do not value the safety and lives of their customers. The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle unintendedly decelerated to 30 MPH. The check engine warning light and an unknown sensor warning light were illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road. The contact stated that he turned off and restarted the vehicle and was able to continue driving. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving the following day, and the vehicle decelerated from 65 MPH to 10 MPH, nearly causing a semi-truck to crash into the vehicle. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle for 15 minutes. The contact stated that he restarted the vehicle, activated the hazard lights, and continued driving at 40-50 MPH. The contact stated that the failure mostly occurred while driving and exceeding 60 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be inspected. The dealer determined that an unknown sensor had failed, and the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V495000 (Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered due to the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

Engine

There's coolant intrusion in my engine due to - as best I can figure - a manufacturing defect that Ford acknowledges in their 2.0L EcoBoost engines (per TSB 22-2229), but NOT in their 1.5L and 1.6L EcoBoost engines (mine is a 1.6L and was produced in parallel with the 2.0L, though they later replaced it with a 1.5L). This is an acknowledged defect, plain and simple, and a safety issue because the engine can catastrophically fail during use due to it! The only fix is literally replacing the engine. Ford won't do anything because it's past the drivetrain warranty.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
