The transmissions stopped working while my wife was driving. The car stopped in the intersection. She was able to shut it off and it restarted so that she could pull into a parking lot. Car was towed to the dealer. The car has 74,000 miles on it and we were told it needs a new transmission and that it would cost $6900 to repair. I called GM and filed a claim with them in hopes they would offer some assistance. I was told nothing could be done. I have since spoke to several repair shops and checked the internet and have found out that it seems GM is having this problem often, for the years 2015-2017 for the Tahoe, Yukon, and Silverado.
Front passenger air bag warning light lit up during road trip to NM. (1400 miles) warning bell sounded. We were very concerned airbag would explode at any minute. This was second time airbag light went off. First time was a loose sensor over drivers head. This time we repaired airbag in passenger seat at cost of $1800!. Now light is on again! This must be defective and needs a recall.
Urgent Attention Needed for Chevy 2017 Tahoe Safety Concern The Chevy 2017 Tahoe is presenting a critical safety issue with the recurring error message "Trailer Brake System" on the dashboard. This leads to a complete shutdown of the vehicle and loss of control at random intervals, posing a severe danger, especially on high-speed roads and highways. Despite attempting repairs, including replacing the controller module, plug adapter, and trailer brake switch, the issue persists. This widespread problem, affecting many users, indicates a potential manufactured defect demanding immediate attention and a recall. It is crucial to address this matter promptly due to its hazardous nature, even for those who do not use a trailer. The safety of vehicle occupants is at stake, and urgent action is required to rectify this concerning issue.
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at 75 MPH, several unknown warning lights flashed on the instrument panel, and the vehicle briefly shut off, then restarted while still in motion. Later, while driving at 45 MPH and attempting to complete a turn, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was unable to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, but the vehicle was able to restart. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The stability control warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed failures with the alternator and transmission. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V761000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic, Service Brakes, Electronic Stability Control), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Just over 115,xxx miles and the transmission is shuddering, difficulty with taking off, RPMs are not steady, delayed acceleration due to sputtering. When at signal light it acts as if it is not going to take off, which could cause other vehicles to rear end my vehicle. While on highway going speed limit these same symptoms occur which could cause multiple vehicle crashes. No service engine lights have come on, when attached to portable code reader, no codes were coming up. Vehicle has been serviced numerous time without concern, fluids were changed at recommended mileage. Problem has been confirmed by independent service center that the torque converter clutch is malfunctioning. Transmission is automatic, 6 spd, HMD, 6L-80
All of a sudden my transmission (6 speed) started slipping. No abuse /drag racing lol. Just normal driving. I limped into my local dealer and they said the transmission was “shot” and that they couldn’t let m drive it home. Also the transmission mechanic was outside smoking and I vape so I started a conversation with him about these 6 sp transmissions and he said “ I can’t count how many I’ve replaced” “ even with less than 80k miles. This is negligent at the least by Chevrolet to intstall dangerous and threatening transmissions. Bad Chevy BAD!
2017 Chevrolet Tahoe Brake Booster Vacuum Pump failed and had to be replaced. Booster sensor as well at cost of $1,493.22. Our vehicle almost hit another car in line for pre-school with children around and almost hit our garage doors due to this issue. Full recall in Canada but not USA? Why? "The amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time. As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash"
The contact's brother owns a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving 70 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the message "Reduced Engine Power" was displayed. Additionally, the vehicle decelerated to 20 MPH. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The contact stated that he turned on the hazards lights and continued driving 20 MPH. The contact stated that upon arriving to his residence, he connected an OBD reader to the vehicle and read diagnostic code P2138, which indicated an accelerator pedal sensor failure. The contact stated that he replaced the part himself; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that there was water leaking inside the vehicle from the roof antenna mounting point, which caused the driver's side fuse box to rust, causing electrical failures. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.
Vehicle is randomly not starting, it will turn over and make a click sound
I just experienced an issue with my transmission, I was driving home from work in cruise control and started up a bridge when my vehicle seemed to disengage the clutch and start rapidly slowing down (I was going up the incline of the bridge) and the motor redlined trying to maintain speed. I immediately switched it back into regular drive mode and noticed that the engine was not engaging with the transmission. I then placed the column shift into the manual setting and dropped down to 3rd gear, the tahoe gave a really abrupt and hard impact on the transmission and I got it to reangage to continue up the incline. This happened more than a dozen times in the remaining 15 miles to my home, both in and out of the manual setting. I did not attempt to go back to curise control. When I got home I turned the car off and checked the trans fluid level and saw nothing on the dipstick, I let it cool off and I have fluid past the "hot" mark and into the S curve of the stick. I was able to determine that my transmission was having a majority of its issues beyone 3rd gear. After doing some very quick research on Google it appears that I'm not the only one having transmission issues, primarily with 3rd and 4th gear of this year make and model. Is this something that is being investigated? My vehicle has 103k miles and is planned for a fluid change in the next couple of weeks (transmission, transfer case, and rear differential), per the O&M book that came with the vehicle. This just happened t
Transmission on my 2017 Chevy Tahoe failed and needs a complete replacement. I notice a class-action lawsuit has been filed for other Chevy models but the Tahoe was not include although it has the same transmission/gearbox. I was on a major interstate when the transmission failed causing the vehicle to decelerate. The car was towed to a Chevy dealership where they have confirmed the transmission needs to be replaced and this has been an ongoing issue with this vehicle. There were no warning lights prior. The check engine light came on after the transmission failed.
The brakes become very hard to engage while at a low speed, consistently in traffic and the car rider line at school. It has caused me to almost hit cars in front of me and people walking between cars. To me, it feels like the brakes are sticking and not releasing fully when I release the pedal to recoil and as if a line is going to be filled with pressurized air to work again and it is not able to do so. If i wait and let the cars go far ahead of me and the blast without using brakes, there isn’t a need to keep using the brake m, but this is not how to drive in traffic and it isn’t safe. It also is scary to not rely on the function of my brakes and it is putting people at risk every day I drop my kids off or kick them up from school. I have had the brakes evaluated for repair, but I am told there is no issue with the brake pads or roters. No warning lights. It resolved after having my brakes evaluated and tires replaced, but it has returned.
The power steering motor went out while I was driving. The message center on my dashboard alerted me just seconds before I couldn't steer. Luckily I was on a residential street and was able to get out of the road with a lot of effort steering. The car was taken to a local mechanic and we were told the power steering motor went out. The mechanic ordered the part and replaced it. The process took 3 weeks total to get the part, replace it and Chevy dealer reprogramming it.
Braking system becomes inoperable when the brakes are applied at the same time the forward collision system is engaged by the vehicles computer.
First the brakes went out, then the AC, now the transmission. It has only 60,000 miles.
Transmission noticeably slipping. When Tahoe is placed in reverse, car begins rolling forward, and sputters backwards. Elongated shifting between gears 2-3 causing RPMs to spike significantly.
The transmission malfunctioned at 100K miles. I was traveling on a major interstate and the car could not power forward. The dealership has confirmed that the transmission needs replacing. I did not receive a warning lamp or messages related to the issue.
The transmission went out at 93,000 miles and we took it in to be repaired under warranty. We were told a new transmission would be installed after being shipped from Detroit MI. When we picked up the vehice we discovered it was not a new transmission but a remanufactured transmission. We drove it home 25 miles home and it did not shift properly. We immediately called the dealership back to report it and was asked to bring it back. The dealership check it and said there was nothing wrong with it we just needed to drive it so it could learn our driving habits. This transmission lasted 104 days. We were out of town and my husband drove it to town to get breakfast and the transmission was slipping so bad he almost didn't get back with it. We had to have it towed to the nearest dealer 30 miles away and rent a car to get home. The second remanufactured transmission was installed by GM on 5/23/23 and we picked it up on 5/26/23. Upon driving it home this 2nd transmission was shifting hard. I contacted GM regarding it and was told to take it to be checked out. Once again we were told we just needed to drive it so it cold learn our driving habits. It is unsafe to drive as my husband drove it 4 miles to the grocery store and still at the traffic light he is pressing the gas to go and the vehicle would not move/go forward. He quickly had to put his flasher on and put the vehicle in park to keep from being hit from behind. He was finally able to get the vehicle to move and got home. The
When going a low speed 15mph when hitting the brake car would not completely stop. When driving rpm will go high and would not go over 50mph

THE BRAKES ARE REALLY HARD WHEN PRESSING TAKES ALOT OF FORCE AND ALSO TAKES VERY LONG TO STOP NOW MY TRUCK PEDAL IS SOFT AND MY TRUCK IS STUTTERING FROM LOSS OF VACCUUM AND ALSO MADE ME FLY DOWN MY DRIVEWAY WITH NO WAY TO STOP
While driving down the highway at 65 MPH in a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe, towing a boat, the stabilitrak service light/warning message illuminated, the check engine light illuminated, the vehicle began to shake, lose power, unable to accelerate, and slowed down to 55 MPH automatically. While trying to pull off the side of the highway, the vehicle continued to slow down to less than 40 MPH with no ability to accelerate. The transmission fluid temperature went all the way up to 282 degrees. We pulled off the side of the highway, let the car cool down for about 15 minutes, restarted the vehicle and attempted to accelerate slightly but the vehicle made a high pitched whining noise and would not move. The vehicle was towed to a Chevrolet dealer and was diagnosed with a failed transmission. This occurred at approximately 78,000 miles.
January 23, 2023 - mileage (85K) 2017 Chevy Tahoe, Z71 What: Transmission/Drive Train 6L80 Hydromatic Transmission - Complete Failure Vehicle was idling in park, in a parking lot, as it was put into drive there was a loud clunk, then pressing the accelerator the vehicle would not move. Put the vehicle back in park, then reverse, this time the transmission engaged backwards, shifted to drive, it moved normally pulled out into traffic. Safety was put at risk when pulling into traffic and then being in the traffic and suddenly, pressing the accelerator the car was no longer moving forward, with other vehicles coming in the rear. Immediately I put on the flashers, bringing the vehicle to a complete stop in traffic in the middle of the lane as the vehicle would not move at all. This put me in danger of being rear-ended by the vehicle(s) behind me. Additionally, safety could have been at all times depending on situation and location. Managed to limp the vehicle home, where it sat overnight to drive to the dealership for diagnosis. No issues going from cold start to drive to travel 4 miles to the dealership, Mark Wahlberg Chevy. Dealership Service Diagnosis, complete transmission failure, likely torque converter issue (known problem), entire transmission was replaced with remanufactured. Warranty, just expired December 2022. Removing transmission, damaged muffler, had to be replaced. Reported to the GM manufacturer for assistance to replace transmission as the warranty just expired
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed and there was an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign: 19V761000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic, Service Brakes, Electronic Stability Control) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by a dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.
I was driving I almost crashed I lost my power steering
Left stranded when vehicle stopped running at a stop light due to bad transmission.
When pulling out of my driveway my gas pedal foot became stuck on the gas pedal. I could not remove my foot from the gas pedal. I immediately stepped on the brake pedal and then my Tahoe accelerated rapidly. I removed my foot from the brake pedal because any pressure on the brake just caused the car to accelerate faster. I then managed to wiggle my gas pedal foot from off of the gas pedal, it took a lot of effort. I was wearing normal men's shoes with no protrusions of any kind. I have recently seen in the news several similar occurrences including one that resulted in a fatality and others being injured as the car accelerated into an Apple store. In two of these cases that I've seen in the news the drivers have reported that their foot became stuck on the gas pedal and when they applied the brakes the car accelerated out of control. This is exactly what happened to me except i managed to get the car under control before I hit anything. My inspection of the Tahoe's pedals revealed that the two pedals are very close to each other and when applying the brakes the brake pedal comes down on the foot that is somehow stuck on the gas pedal. I believe the stuck accelerator foot was somehow trapped under the brake pedal. The pedals are too close together.
While driving in a parking lot to go thru a drive thru to pick food I was moving at a slow speed 10 to 15 mph and slowing to a stop my brake pedal became very hard to push and my Tahoe did not stop right away. I almost hit the car in front of me. I put the vehicle in park, turned it off, waited 30 to 45 seconds, turned the vehicle back on and put it in drive and slowly started moving in the drive thru line. When I stepped on the brakes to stop again the pedal got hard to push again and it did not stop right away. Brake Assist warning came on in the dashboard when I moved and tried to stop again. I drove home with extreme caution and as I was rolling into my driveway the same thing happened again that happened in the drive thru. I have parked my Tahoe and will have it towed to dealership.
HARD BRAKE PEDAL RESULTING IN LITTLE OR NO STOPPING POWER WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES AT LOW SPEED. TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP, YOU MUST STOMP ON THE PEDAL AS HARD AS YOU CAN. THE SITUATION TYPICALLY OCCURS WHEN PARKING. THE BRAKE APPLICATION OR TWO ARE FINE, BUT AFTER THAT THE BRAKES FAIL. AND ALSO MAKE A VIBERATION IN THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE SOUNDING ROUGH! WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND BRAKES PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH NO PRESSURE AT THE PEDAL.
When driving at low speeds, the brakes are hard to engage which can result in crashing into objects/people without being able to safely stop. This happens in parking lots, stop and go traffic on the busy interstate and in drive-thrus. This can be dangerous for the driver/passengers and others outside the vehicle or objects. This is also a huge safety issue when driving down a steep incline at low speeds and having to pull out into traffic due to it not stopping appropriately. Vehicle has been inspected by a mechanic however there are no warning lamps illuminated. As stated before, brake issue happens only at low speeds. From my understanding there was a recall for this same issue for vehicles of certain years 2015-2018, specifically Tahoe being in the category.
Tahoe brake system failing, takes longer to stop. Brake pedal begins to feel solid on activation with little effect to slow or stop. Due to failure to stop, Almost in a few collisions and rolled down a hillside road. Tahoe is now parked. I read the 2014-2018 tahoes have a (brake) vacuum pump issue for recall. 19V645000 Recall number Called local dealership. Is not on recall list. Not submitted to dealership yet. No appointments until January 2023. I’m sure they can reproduce issue Tahoe not inspected by others No warning lights or other in vehicle advisals
Service brake assist system warning came on right after brakes malfunctioned.
Weird shifting Vehicle going neutral out of nowhere while operating the vehicle in traffic (major safety issue)! No codes alerting of any damage Could not go over 20 mph without vehicle completely stalling in traffic No matter how much accelerator pedal was engaged vehicle would not accelerate
I recently had my brakes and rotors replaced for this issue. Any time I’m backing my vehicle into and parking spot drive way garage etc it’s difficult to stop. I’m flooring the pedal to stop. I cracked my number because I couldn’t stop. I’ve seen an article for a recall on 2018 models that were made in 2017. My truck is a 2017 experiencing these same issues. No recalls are current for this isssue. Not sure if I’m the only one but it is happening.
La falla de mi carro es la transmisión se quebró por dentro cuando iba en marcha pero pude llegar a un tienda de Chevrolet
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving and approaching a stop sign, the vehicle jerked as if the brake pedal was abruptly depressed. The failure mileage was not available.
About 3 weeks ago my vehicle began shuddering during acceleration only at low speeds, and I had an appointment to regularly scheduled maintenance next week and planned to have the dealer look at it during that appointment. However, 3 days ago, at about 84,479 miles I was merging on to the highway and when I attempted to accelerate to highway speeds the tachometer jumped to 6000 rpm’s and became very sluggish when accelerating. It calmed down, but shortly after calming down, the tachometer spiked again to around 4500 rpm’s at 70mph, the check engine light came on and the vehicle temporarily stopped responding to any input except to raise the tachometer reading. After shifting into manual and back into automatic the transmission reengaged but would not allow for normal acceleration. The vehicle was able to be driven at approximately 30-35mph while the tachometer stayed consistently at around 3500-4000 rpm’s. The trouble codes given were P0700 and P0796, both relating to transmission indicating a problem with it.
The Trailer Brake System light repeatedly came on 13SEP2022 and continues to alert you while driving with alerting sound. It also is causing my SUV not to start properly and causing voltage shortage issues.
On 5/5/2022, I was driving my 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe. I pulled into traffic and then traffic briefly stopped moving. When I attempted to accelerate, my truck would not move. When I tried to accelerate, my truck began to roll backwards into the traffic behind me. My truck would only move in reverse. A passerby left his vehicle to assist me with backing up off the road as much as I could due to there being a ditch next to where I was stranded. My husband attempted to back the truck out of the road completely but the truck then slid closer to the drainage ditch. Roadside assistance had to be called and my truck had to be winched out and towed to my home on a flatbed. There were no warning signs prior to this incident. There were no warning lamps, no messages, no unusual smells or sounds nor did it drive differently. The closest GM dealership was unable to assess my truck due to them being backlogged and not having any available appointments. The truck was taken to two separate mechanics that stated that I need a new transmission. One was able to do a diagnostic and stated that the code for speed sensor failure read after the 2nd attempt. When the truck was taken there for repair the speed sensor did not read but instead the main control valve body was the fault code. The repair was completed and two days later the truck would not shift between gears. I had to take my truck to another GM dealer 30 minutes away. They diagnosed my truck and stated that fault code for an irregularity
Around 84,429 miles accelerated onto freeway and check engine light on and slow to accelerate. Try getting up to speed on an interstate without response when you slam on the gas. Went to shop, generic 700 code many things, but recommend to stop driving immediately. Continued to be be slow accelerating, changing my driving patterns to where I was not turning left unless with a turn light, or driving out of my way to make right turns ( to go Left). After a week (and calling shops) it had to be looked at and diagnosed. Took to transmission shop, Rebuilt was offered for quicker turn around, they could start ASAP. Their comment was we see a lot of this model and keep enough parts for this Tahoe to start. Also noted when dropped off 2 other models of this generation Tahoe were in the shop. And a GMC Sierra around the same period (assuming same Transmission here). Test Drive with Manager, they repair a lot of Chevy Tahoes and suburbans, and Nissans. Those keep them in business. Sister in law was there to get her Nissan Transmission Rebuilt about 3 months prior. (No Toyotas in the shop or Parking lot) I wish I had visited a Transmission shop before looking for new cars, great insight to prevent expensive repairs. After repair last week all is right (as expected when accelerating )This should be a recall at point or at least extend the warranty on the drivetrain and repairs. Just a thought with the complaints here and the Transmission shops. Should be looked at, not just on the 2017 m
On 05/12/22, Service Trailer brake system warning alerts came on. Simply driving my Tahoe doing approximately 30 mph. We were not towing. It did it non stop for the full 30 miles home chiming and Blinking.
Heard a slight noise from the front of the car, like a faint squeal of a fan belt type noise. Then I had no brakes! No warning.. then a message displayed "brake assist service" A little late. No notice and almost plowed into the car in front of me! carefully crawled home and called AAA to tow it to the Chevy dealer.
The middle row seat belt on the drivers side is failing to retract and secure my child. It is premature failure on a 5 year old model vehicle.
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while inspecting the vehicle with a UV light, he noticed there was a refrigerant leak in the air conditioning condenser. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed with an air conditioning condenser refrigerant leak. The contact was informed that the air conditioning condenser needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN and directed the contact to file a complaint with NHTSA. The contact related the failure to Special Coverage Adjustment 17336: Air Conditioning Condenser (Combi-Cooler) Refrigerant Leak. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000.
My wife usually drives the Tahoe for short day to day commuting to and from work and bringing kids to practice, but I needed it for work one day and upon trying to accelerate onto the highway I noticed the transmission had no power when accelerating. I took it to a Chevy dealer and they were unable to diagnose the problem due to it not displaying a check engine light nor were they able to guarantee they would be able to determine the problem if they kept it longer for further inspection. I made an appointment with a shop down the road and after an inspection and test drive, they were able to determine that gears 3 and 6 were shot on the transmission. and that the engine was at 100% load going 55 mph. After waiting 4 weeks for a transmission, when we went to pick up our vehicle, he had 2 other Tahoes in the shop (2016 and 2019 with 77,000 and 51000 miles respectively) both needing new transmissions and said he has had many Suburbans and Silverados with same problem around the same miles. Shame on Chevrolet.
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle made an abnormal sound and would not accelerate. Additionally, the brakes failed to engage immediately while the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred with the gear shifter not shifting into Drive or Reverse. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 103,000.

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
