Driving on interstate 85 on cruise control when I herd the motor RPM start to climb so I tapped the break and that’s when the truck shut itself off and put itself in neutral causing me to have to coast over to shoulder of the road. Message on the dash said push start button to start again. There were no check engine lights, no overheating temperature lights. No codes at all. The truck is a 2024 with 62,000 miles and all oil changes on time. Upon checking online , this has happened to other vehicle owners as well. Apparently the Chevy Silverado with the 6.2 liter engine has problems with push rods and bearings. Some have replaced multiple engines. Chevy wants me to pay for new engine.

Shortly after I bought this truck, At about 3,000miles I thought it had an exhaust leak, I took it in to Chevy and they kept it for a few days. Well they get back to me and said that the lifters had failed. They put new ones in and these too failed. Then about 2 weeks later they got back to me saying they were waiting on putting a new motor in for the truck. This is the 6.2L that is known for lifter failure. After about 2 more weeks they reached back out and had said that the truck was almost done. When I got the call to come get it, I asked when I got there what do I do when this keeps happening in the future of me owning the truck. The service guy shrugged his shoulders and said “buy and extended warranty.” He then proceeded to tell me to buy a chip that will delete the DFM in the truck but will void my factory warranty. I’m very frustrated and worried for myself in the future with this truck. I’ve already spent so much buying the truck and in a few years when my warranty expires and this happens again that will be out of my pocket.
Engine check light came on at 10,500 miles and under 300 hours of engine time. Initially thought it was due to a wheel speed sensor failure from the salt and brine build up from winter weather. After having the code ran the engine is misfiring and has a rough idle. This is an L87 6.2L motor on a 2024 Silverado ZR2. After researching this problem it is way more frequent than the total of 39 official reports with a similar truck owned by an acquaintance having the same issue at the same mileage. Engine sound has changed, the truck shudders, and may seize up at any moment. The truck had 1 oil change at 5500 miles and was due for its second oil change at 11500 but will more than likely need an engine replacement.
Vehicle with out warring lost significant portion of its power and was put in reduced acceleration mode. This is a brand new vehicle less than 12,000 miles. The truck was towed to a dealership and the cause is a failure with the transmission valve body. Truck has sat a the dealer unrepaired for 2+ months.
Subject: Engine Failure – 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (6.2L V8 •VIN: [XXX] Issue Description: While driving on [XXX], I noticed the transmission would downshift but not upshift. Within seconds, a warning appeared: “Oil temperature high, idle engine.” I began merging onto the shoulder, but before I could get there, the engine shut off completely, and the transmission shifted into neutral. After coasting to the shoulder, the transmission shifted into park on its own. Failure to Restart & Electrical Issues: I attempted to restart the engine, but it would not turn over. The dashboard, radio, and electronics turned off for a few seconds before coming back on, but the engine remained unresponsive. Towing Difficulties & Roadside Assistance Failure: GM Roadside Assistance said no contracted towing companies had the equipment to tow my truck because it would not shift into neutral without the engine running. I had to find and pay for a tow truck myself, with no guarantee of reimbursement. Dealer Response & Repair Delays: My truck has been at the dealership for days, but they have not started repairs due to technician shortages and a backlog of work. They stated: •Manually cranking the engine is nearly impossible. •The starter is not strong enough to turn it. •Repairs could take months. Loaner Car & Additional Hardships: Per the GM warranty, I received a loaner car but must return it every 500 miles. Since I commute 160 miles per day, I must frequently exchange it, causing major inco
The vehicle had a sudden engine failure driving up an incline and a bearing rod caused me to need a new engine. It’s at Myrtle Beach Chevrolet and they tell me the engine is on National BackOrder. It’s a new truck and now needs a new engine that can’t be found. Shame on GM

This is the 3rd engine failure in 23K miles. The first was a Lifter/Rod problem at around 3K miles. The 2nd was catastrophic engine failure due to a spun bearing at 21K miles. Now at 23K miles, I'm having another catastrophic engine failure with the same issue. Engine is the 6.2L L87.
When Driving my 2024 Chevy Silverado with 24,600 Miles on it this morning, i was on the New York State Thruway going highways speed (70MPH) when the truck Lost Power, and Shut completely off, I had a tractor trailer behind me and lucky my pick up truck was able to coast over the white line, if i would have been able to coast over the white line i would have been in a major accident. I attempted to start the truck up again and the truck would not turn over, i had sat there for about 25/30 Min trying to get the truck started and finally the truck turned over and i was able to continue on to work, While driving the truck had absolutely no power and the truck was sitting around 3K RPMs when going 66mph, the truck was hard shifting into gears as well. I arrived at work and i got to a parking space and all the sudden the truck shut off and wouldn't not start back up. Upon arriving to work i rolled down my window and heard a long banging noise coming from the engine Aswell as a whining noise. I attempted to start the truck up and you hit the start button the truck just keeps whining and never starts up. I was able to contact GM Roadside and have a tow truck come and pick the truck up and bring it back to the dealer. Im awaiting the dealer to contact me. Overall, i could have been in serious car accident for because the engine just shut off on the highway, this happened with no warning or anything, the check engine light was NOT on before this happened.
At 40mph the transmission vibration on the pedal, and at slower speeds.
On 12/24/24 my truck went into limp mode with the notification of “reduced acceleration” nearly causing an accident. Luckily I was able to get off the road to safety. The truck wouldn’t go in reverse or fully accelerate. I had the truck towed to the dealership. The dealership informed me it was the Valve Body in my transmission. They mentioned they have 4 other trucks with the exact same issue. It’s been 1 month since and nothing has been repaired and GM has not responded to my inquiries on a replacement, update on the part, or a buy back. The vehicle was brand new on a lease only 7500 miles on it and was purchased in July. The truck didn’t even last 6months. Had I not quickly gotten the truck off the road I could have been T-Boned and could’ve died at the intersection by a semi coming through. The fact this vehicle was sold, while this was an issue is criminal negligence.
My 2024 ZR2 has roughly 22,000 miles on it. Was driving and lost power. Dealership actually sent someone to come look at my stalled truck. Would not turn over. Dealership got it towed. After diagnosis, they said the engine had seized. This is absolutely uncalled for on a brand new vehicle that I paid over $70,000 for. This exact same thing happened on my Co Workers 2020 high country 6.2. It is currently being worked on, and now seeing that over 877,000 of these 6.2 engines have done this exact same thing since 2019??? How is this engine still being put in these GM vehicles? Now they are going to put new or rebuild the one I have that the exact same thing can happen to the new one? No new warranty will be given as I just get the remaining warranty? I'm sorry but this is the most expensive vehicle I have ever purchased and was proud of it. Now I have a ticking time bomb? I work out of state and if this happened while out of state, what do I do?? I would like action taken! I am getting an attorney involved as this should be taken care of after 877,000 vehicles. What other action can be taken? Thank You, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The vehicle burns oil and has from the very first oil change. The dealer is stating the oil needs to be changed more often (5k as opposed to 7500 per the manual) to mitigate the fact the vehicle is burning oil. Currently I am hearing lifter tick at cold start and believe the vehicle is on its way to experiencing engine failure of which your organization is already looking into. I am reporting this to help with your investigation. Please feel free to call with any questions. Thank you. The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that after the vehicle was serviced at the local dealer for a manufacturer software update the vehicle's display console began to experience failures causing several safety features to become inoperable. Later, while driving in reverse the vehicle crashed into the pole. During the incident, the collision avoidance feature to alert the driver was not activated. The contact indicated that as the vehicle drove closer to the pole the driver's seat did not vibrate, the audible alarm was not active and the warning message was not displayed to alert the driver of an impending crash into the pole. During the crash, the contact experienced an injured back that did not require medical attention at the time. No police report was filed and the vehicle was driven from the scene. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 10,500.
The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while the transmission was shifting gear, there was a hesitation before properly shifting gear. The contact stated that while stopped at a stop light and then attempting to accelerate while making a left turn at approximately 15 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to accelerate immediately but then suddenly surged forward. The check engine warning light was illuminated, and the vehicle went into LIMP Mode. The contact had restarted the vehicle and drove the vehicle a short distance to the residence. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission valve had failed, and the valve body needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired due to the manufacturer taking an extensive amount of time to provide the parts. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 7,485.
I purchased a new 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4wd in May 2024 from a Chevrolet Dealer in East Tennessee, after having the truck for 5 months, it started experiencing a transmission "shutter / vibration" at higher speeds, it has also experienced a transmission "hard downshift" at times... a month later at only 4914 miles, it was dropped off at the chevrolet dealership here in my home state of Alabama for its first oil change and for them to check what is going on with the transmission, after the truck being there for 3 weeks, we were told that the transmission needed to come out for repairs, we advised the dealership and several GM representatives that we wanted a brand new transmission put in the truck that is brand new to start with, GM has refused and stated that they were going just rebuild the transmission.... we told them "No" and that we had bought a brand new truck, therefore it should have a new transmission, not a rebuilt one in a brand new truck with less than 5000 miles on it.... the truck has been out of our possession starting into its 3rd month being gone for repairs, not only is this a huge inconvenience for us, but its also a huge safety issue because we do occasionally pull trailers with this truck... General Motors has flat refused any help to our satisfaction with this transmission issue and has just pretty just blown us off and told us "No" when we have approached them with any kind of remedies for this situation, its pretty bad when a company that has t
I am sending this report in regards to investigation PE25001. I own a 2024 Silverado 6.2L, purchased on 8/30/24. On 12/27/24, I noticed a odd noise coming from the exhaust and took the truck to the dealership. After a week of trouble shooting, the dealership with the help of technicians from Chevrolet, discovered the crankshaft play was 3 times out of limits causing the exhaust to rattle and determined that engine would have to be replaced.
I was driving down the road when the vehicle shut off and required a restart. After I was able to safely pull to the side of the road with zero power I was able to restart the vehicle after a few tries. The check engine light came on. Upon getting the code checked the CAM sensor is what shut the vehicle off. I was on a busy access road and a crash could have happened if I was not able to move out of the travel lanes.
The tailgate opens while I am driving. I saw this is an issue with other Models but it has happened numerous times on my model as well. The computer system also malfunctions sporadically and the car doesn’t turn off.
Unknowns at the moment- truck is at dealership. Dealership stated they have no codes to diagnose the issue. While traveling, most notably @35-45mph, there is a vibration, seemingly through the transmission or transfer case. You can feel it slightly through both the steering wheel and the fuel pedal, along with hearing it. I’ve taken it in several times and told there’s no issue. I will not accept the vehicle back until they are able to explain the issue and repair it. I noticed the issue around 20k miles. I recently took the vehicle to the shop with 32k miles on it as it is progressively getting worse.
Vehicle spun a bearing in the lower part of the engine after 1147 miles of use.
The 6.2L engine suffered lifter failure while the vehicle was in motion on the highway. This was after 5 months of ownership and only 2,800 miles on a new 2024 Silverado. The vehicle months prior to the failure emitted a chirping sound like a loose fan belt. Dealer stated it was valve noise. It got louder prior to failure. The dealer repaired the engine and replaced all 8 cylinder lifters. Now the same noise is back.
The issue involved multiple systems, including the ABS system, brake system, and electronic stability system (ESG), along with a significant loss of braking power. These components may still be available for inspection. My safety and that of others were seriously at risk during my morning commute in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The truck lost braking capability, nearly causing a collision with the vehicle in front of me. Later, as I attempted to park, it again lost braking force, and I narrowly avoided crashing into bushes. The collision prevention system also failed to activate during these incidents. The problem was inspected and diagnosed by the dealership after being towed via roadside assistance. They confirmed that the battery caused the failures across multiple systems. This was not the first issue with the battery. About a month ago, the battery suddenly died, preventing the truck from starting. At that time, Chevrolet sent me a message stating that the battery status was critical. After recharging it, the vehicle functioned normally until this recent incident. The first symptoms of the latest issue appeared while I was stopped at a red light. The truck suddenly shut off and restarted on its own. Warning lights for the ABS system and brake system appeared on the dashboard. Once the light turned green and I started to accelerate, an ESG message appeared, followed by another message limiting the maximum speed to 43 mph. When I tried to brake to park the truck, the bra
On 1/13/25 while driving my new vehicle and arriving at destination I placed vehicle in park for 10 mins and then left putting vehicle in reverse and transmission in reverse would not engage, rolling me into decline slope and almost crashing into home. After receiving help to push vehicle in neutral, I placed car in drive and sent to dealership. Truck seemed fine in drive. Parkway Chevrolet, Tomball, TX inspected vehicle and stated no issues. Possible torque lock but nothing showing and possibly resolved. On 1/16/25 while driving to work, I stopped at gas station for coffee, left truck running. Got back in vehicle and placed in reverse, and again truck would not engage reverse. I received another push out in neutral , placed in drive and then proceeded to return home. While I’m drive check engine light came on, and truck would not go beyond the 2nd gear. I stopped at closest light to turn around and proceed home and the vehicle began grinding gea and jerking my vehicle while in drive. I tried to turn around at a dead end road and could not reverse vehicle and called for tow to dealership. Dealership at opening 7am took in vehicle 2 nd time with my complaint and called at noon. They stated the valve body of transmission needed to be replaced. Further stating it was a faulty issue chevy was aware about but nothing showing and recalled. They said no longer using manufacturer for this transmission replacement and it would be an unknown eta for repair. This is dangerous and unacce
The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle began jerking and sputtering and then stalled. The engine turned over, but the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel pump module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 8,840.
Blown transmission valve body at 8000 total miles. Truck went into limp mode and will not reverse. Can not be safely driven. Has been sitting at dealership for 2 months now waiting for parts from GM. National backorder no ETA.
The automatic power running board of my vehicle has been coming loose. I took the vehicle to my dealership to get serviced. They said they tightened the bolts, and that the board is still loose. They also say there is nothing else they can do to fix the issue. This seems like a significant risk, as this component of the body of my car is at risk of coming apart further due to rattling while driving. I would like your help figuring out a safe solution.
I purchased my vehicle in July 2024 brand new. I started to experience an engine shudder at about 4500 miles with the truck coasting or on the accelerator around 1500 RPMs. It first began at lower speeds around 40 mph, but now I feel it at high speeds as well. I brought my truck back to the dealership three or four times and they told me that the shudder was due to the active fuel management system in my 2.7L Turbomax engine. A different dealer said that it felt like a torque converter. There are no lights on the dashboard. The dealership I bought it from failed to try and flush the transmission fluid, only documenting that they did not feel the shudder on the receipt they gave me. However, during the test drive, they told me that they can clearly feel it. They failed to give me an explanation why there was no shudder for the first 4500 miles, and that it just started. They also stated that they had not heard of this problem yet, but said that it felt completely normal, which does not make much sense.
I purchased my vehicle from Mak Haik Chevrolet 11711 Katy Fwy. Houston, TX 77079 on [XXX]. Approximately 4 months my Check Engine Light came on and I brought my Truck to Mak Haik Chevrolet to have it checked out. The Service Department could not figure out why the Check Engine Light had came on. They did complete the Recall N242435631 regarding a need to update the radio and serial communication firmware on my truck. On Saturday November 9th 2024, I brought my truck into Mak Haik Chevrolet for the 2nd oil change at approximately 10,000 miles, and the technician could not get the truck to go into reverse. I was given a loaner vehicle and told that they would contact me about the issue once their transmission technician could look my truck on Monday. I was contacted on Monday November 11th2024, and told that the Valve Body in the transmission was defective. Jim Cox, Service Advisor with Mak Haik Chevrolet, explained that he could not find the part, as this is a big issue with Chevrolet across the Country, and he would let me know when he has access to the part. I asked about replacing the transmission instead, and Jim explained that he could not get those in either? Mak Haik Chevrolet has had my truck since November 9th, 2024. My vehicle suddenly experienced decreased acceleration on the highway. A warning message appeared on the dashboard indicating reduced acceleration. When placing the vehicle in Reverse, the vehicle was not able to move in reverse. The dealership diagnosed it as a valve body needing replaced.
THE TRUCK FAILED GO SHIFT INTO REVERSE. HAD TO PUSH THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE. WHEN I TRIED TO GO FORWARD THE VEHICLE SHUTTERED AND THEN SHIFTED INTO LIMP MODE. DEALERSHIP HAS HAD THE TRUCK FOR OVER 8 WEEKS NOW AND I AM TOLD THERE IS A NATIONAL BACK-ORDER ON THE NEW VALVE BODY BECAUSE OF THE NUMBER OF TRUCKS REQUIRING REPLACEMENTS.
Every time I tow my travel trailer within 150 miles or so I will get a message that the Diesel Exhaust fluid (DEF)is low and needs to be filled soon. Within 50 miles of that happening I will get the message that the DEF is low and will be speed limited in 500 miles. When I stop and fill the DEF fluid it only takes about 2.5 gallons which isn't even halfway empty. When the Speed Limited to 65 in xxx miles warning comes on you are unable to view any other safety related information such as tire pressure or temperatures. I took my truck to Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine, TX. in September and they kept a 6 month old truck for 23 days. They said there is an issue with the DEF software algorithm while towing and they don't have a fix. They have a technical service bulletin that tells them to instruct customers not to add DEF until they get the Speed Limited in xxx miles . In other words don't fill it up when it says it's empty. The DEF system is a government requirement and the manufacturer should be required to ensure that their system is accurate and working under all driving conditions.
Blown valve body , i bought the truck less than 6 months ago
Vehicle would not go in reverse or shift out of First gear Diagnosed as needing a transmission valve body replacement
Only 6k miles. Couldn’t go in reverse or get out of 1st gear. Brought to dealer, they said it needs a new valve body gor the transmission and there are so many trucks with this issue the part is on b/o for 2 weeks-3 months! In the meantime I have not truck.
Vehicle cut off while driving down the highway and wouldn’t restart. Had to be towed to dealer with a faulty fuel pump control module
I am writing to formally report a critical safety issue involving the torque converter in my vehicle, which has put my safety and the safety of others at risk. The problem began when I noticed rumbling noises emanating from the underside of the vehicle while driving at slow speeds on any type of road. There were no warning lamps or messages displayed on the vehicle to indicate an issue. This lack of advance notice left me unaware of the potential danger, increasing the risk of an accident. Upon having the vehicle inspected by a certified dealership, it was confirmed that the torque converter had come apart. This malfunction significantly compromised the vehicle’s drivability and posed a serious safety hazard. Sudden loss of power or reduced control, which could occur due to such a failure, puts both the driver and other road users at risk of an accident. I am deeply concerned about the implications of this issue for other vehicles that may have similar defects. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter promptly to determine if it represents a broader safety concern and to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to prevent further incidents. Please feel free to contact me for any additional details or documentation related to this issue. I appreciate your attention to this urgent matter and look forward to your response. Sincerely, [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] GMC, Sierra, 2018, and [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Valve Body on transmission failed at 9000 miles resulting in extreme reduced acceleration and it being unsafe to drive. No warning lights appeared until after the part failed. Failed valve body has been confirmed by the certified dealership service center. Replacement valve bodies are unavailable from the manufacturer GM. GM has not issued any formal recall for this part and searching online forums, this is a very common part failure for this vehicle.
I was taking a left from a stop sign onto a busy boulevard and as soon as I had passed the median I started losing acceleration and it felt like the transmission or engine was glitching or lugging. The engine began to try restarting itself possibly from the auto start-stop however I was now almost at a dead stop in the left hand lane in the dark. I promptly attempted to turn my hazards on, but they would not turn on while it was trying to start so I held the brake pedal down for light. I tried to turn the truck off and turn it back on however the hazards still did not work, none of the gauges went off when the truck was turned off, IE gas and voltage gauges were stuck. After attempting to put it into park and drive a few times I was finally able to turn the truck off, open the door and close it. At this point I was finally able to get the hazards turned on, however, it seemed like they would not stay on when the truck was trying to start so I could get out of the left hand lane. Fortunately someone stopped and we were able to push the truck off onto the median. After about a dozen attempts, the truck finally started, with the last attempt pumping the gas repeatedly for about twenty seconds. I drove hit for another twenty minutes and it drove okay with the engine light on. Onstar diagnostics mentioned possible fuel pump relay. I will note I did test drive a same year GMC equivalent model, and as the dealer went to gas it up, it would not start again. It ended up being the fuel
I purchased my truck in August of 2024, new off of the lot. Within the first week there was an issue with the infotainment system of the truck with muted all audio. This includes all safety features that have audio alerts, navigation, stereo, blinkers. Anything audio is affected. This has now happened to my tuck 6 times since purchasing it. I have researched this online, and it has been a common issue since at least 2022 with no solution by Chevrolet. I have concerns since this affects all safety features built into the truck.
The forward collision warning light just came on and has been on for five days. Nothing happened, no wreck, no bumping into anything. I have researched and found others that have had the same problem. I tried removing the F11 fuse and leaving it out for 15 minutes as well as replacing it. I’ve insured that the windshield is clean and cameras are not blocked. I’ve used the settings in the main screen to turn the option on and off and it still stays on. I’ve checked for updates but didn’t find any. I called the dealership and they couldn’t help and said bring the truck in.
My husband hit another vehicle, then proceeded across the road and crashed into a telephone pole. The airbags did not deploy. However the vehicle called onstar to report the crash. The nc state trooper and the towing company both indicated that they were also shocked that the air bags did not deploy. This is a brand new vehicle with 1100 miles and has been declared a total loss due to the severity of the front end damage. The the body shop was also commenting on this fact.
The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while the vehicle was in the driveway, the vehicle was shifted into park and the parking brake message was illuminated. The contact stated that after disconnecting his boat trailer from the vehicle, the vehicle accelerated across the street and stopped. Additionally, while driving on three occasions at undisclosed speeds, the throttle was sticking. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 3,800.
All camera work off and on had it at dealer 6times cannot fix it
On [XXX], my Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Custom, Trail Boss 7,500 miles lost immediate power during driving operations. I was accelerating from a stop and my truck immediately lost power and my RPMs rose drastically without any power to my wheels. In an instant, the truck surged in power and continued to loose it while in traffic. I had to control the vehicle by slowing down. The check engine light appeared and warning messages to reduce acceleration and drive carefully. All of this occurred violently and without any warning. The truck reduced speed on its own and allowed me to drive 35 mph for two miles into the dealership which happened to be close. There is an extreme risk here for anyone who is driving at interstate speeds and this were to happen. After experiencing this incident, I was told the transmission or the transmission valve body required to be replaced by the dealership. I researched this later and discovered an extensive list of year models with the same problem. I was told services bulletins have been issued on this issue, but this is a serious risk to loss of life. I was told today Chevrolet doesn’t have a solution to the valve body problem and I would be without my vehicle until it is found and repaired. I am requesting a formal investigation. My truck is located at Tom Gibbs Chevrolet, Bunnell , Florida. [XXX] , [XXX] , [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
