Engine seized up while traveling on the interstate at about 80 mph in traffic and rainy weather. Vehicle was able to coast to the side of the roadway. No warnings or lights. Gauges were normal. It just shut off out of nowhere. Vehicle never got past 20% warning for oil changes and proper oil was always used.

When the vehicle is completely stopped, shifted to the park position, ignition turned off, the motor will stop running but an error come up on the dash " shift to park" and the horn start chirping and the instrument panel, radio etc. will not shut off even though it is in park .I have read this is a huge safety concern with my model truck and many other Chevrolet vehicles but I'm not sue if it's resulted in any injuries or damage. The GM customer service rep I spoke to said to file this with you NHTSA so that if there is enough of a safety concern or defective part problem a recall will be issues. thank you for your time [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Truck with 32,496 miles began to shift in a strange manner, the engine then shutoff with no warning while traveling at highway speeds. The truck shifted into neutral and I was able to coast to the side of the road. I had the truck towed to the dealer and they found that the oil pump had failed and that it spun the 6 and 7 rod end bearings and the number 4 main bearing. The truck has the L87 6.2 liter V8. The engine stopped on 12/29/2024 and the truck was towed to the dealer. The truck was at the dealer until 3/28/2025. The truck was at the dealer for this amount of time due the GM having a national back-order on the engine.

2022 Chevy 50k miles engine failed march 2025 Towed to dealership awaiting engine inspection and confirm replacement t or repairs.
I was driving my vehicle at highway speed and the engine stalled. No warning or indicator lights. It just stopped on the interstate. Made it to the shoulder and tried to restart. Had to get it towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with crankshaft bearing failure. I need a new engine.
The entire engine locked up driving down the highway. This is the gm 6.2 engine. Currently new engine being installed but problem is still there
Three year old vehicle with regular dealership maintenance. Spring broke, dealership stated that this is very common in the 6.2 L engine. Caused the Lifters to fail and scarring to happen on the camshafts. It was less expensive to replace the engine. This vehicle was of course out of warranty. Happened suddenly almost caused an accident as I was driving down the road and lost the ability to drive.
Truck started making noise from under the hood and lost power at the stop sign near our house. I was able to get it restarted and drive it 50 yards to my driveway. I had it towed to Galles Chevrolet the next day. I have waited 3 weeks now to get word from the dealer. I was able to finally speak with a service advisor this morning who told me that they suspect the engine has failed. They have yet to tear it down and cannot recommend me for a rental till they order the parts. They assured that they would get to it by 4/8/25 at the latest.
Main bearing failure, same problems as reported by other 6.2 Liter GM vehicles. I had regular oil changes and was still 2000 miles from my next oil change and the engine failed with no warning on a road trip. Waiting on GM to send a new engine block under warranty. My engine was also 2 quarts of oil low.

My tailgate started opening randomly for 2 consecutive days now. This happens while the vehicle is in park with the keys out of the ignition and also while driving down the road exposing items in the bed to possibly fall out and cause potential injury or death from accidents.
Passenger side head light and maker light are allowing water to enter the housing and fogging up the lens/headlight reducing effectiveness. Driver side is OK This has been happening for several weeks getting worse

The contact continued to depress the accelerator pedal and the vehicle shuddered with the "Reduced Acceleration Drive with Care" message displayed on the instrument panel. The failure persisted, and the contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic. The mechanic used a code reader, which showed that a bolt on the timing belt gear had scraped the engine block which caused metal shavings to enter the engine. The vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, and the contact was provided with an estimate for a new engine. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and remained with the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.

The vehicle shut down while driving and would not restart. While driving it I got an odd error message then it went into neutral on it's own then as soon as I stopped to park it shifted itself to park and would not move. Thankfully I was in a parking lot and safe, otherwise it could have been catastrophic on a highway. AAA came and replaced the battery, which did not help. They tried to shift it into neutral so that it could be put on the flatbed but it would not shift. They finally were able to tow it on a dolly using a regular tow truck. Dealership inspected it and found metal in the oil indicating the need for a new motor. It is under warranty but it's going on 2 weeks and we still don't have an ETA on an engine. It's a 2022 Chevy Silverado, 6.2L with 36,000 miles. I cannot get a return call from the dealership GM.
Loss of motor power due to engine loss. Electronics not functioning properly. Was in danger on an interstate when motor failed to work. I had no warning lights that anything was wrong with the vehicle. Engine failure was not detected until vehicle was towed to the dealership.
The transmission have a delay after you put in D after 2 of 3 minute it jump forward an another 10 feet does it again then drive ok until I stop the all stop when it restart it launch forward, I will have to hold brake down hard like emergency Stop to keep it rear in the vehicle in front of me. I have to be careful with somebody is in front me in crosswalk. The problem is in the center on some go black for hour, if it done do that everything freeze on the display some time for hour even if I stop and restart the truck, this is get worse as the week go by. This is my third update
Driving at 50 coasting down a hill the engine seized. No warning lights no noises. It was towed to a dealership and I have been waiting 1month for engine replacement

While returning home from my son's graduation. I came to a stop at a stoplight. Before I could come to a complete stop my check engine lights came on and beeped indicating I had low oil pressure. I looked at my guage and it was sitting at 0 psi. I gave the truck some gas to try to bring the oil pressure up and it seemed to work. But the damage was already done. It had a steady knock. I pulled over to check my oil level. It was full. I was able to make it home and to the dealership. I told them what had happened and they replaced the engine. This was at around 20,000 miles. 1 year later, 8,000 miles later. Driving home from work I noticed a tick sitting at a stop light. Drove it home and parked it, knowing my past expirience I didn't want to risk being stalled on a busy highway. Dealership just told me I need another engine. First 10,000 miles, my transmission went bad. 20,000 the motor went bad. 28,000 another motor. Instead of fixing the problem they just replace parts.
Vehicle Message "Reduced Acceleration Drive with Care" . My car then ran like it was in 1st gear for my drive home. Next morning couldn't go into reverse so I had to have my buddy help me tow it. Went to the dealer and they said that it's "an ongoing issue with GM that they haven't addressed with several vehicles and the part (Valve Body) is on backorder with no ETA. With this horrible safety issue you would think GM would just take the hit and change out the entire transmission instead of making people wait so long without their vehicles.
When putting my vehicle in park and turning vehicle off keys won’t come out and stay stuck. Problem continues to only get worse and I have to wait to remove key. Battery sometimes dies as I am very busy and don’t have time to sit there and play or wait for key to come out 10+minutes. In the heat vehicle is off as I am trying to remove key and I have a baby in the car seat in the heat. This is extremely frustrating and dealership won’t do anything about it. This is my only vehicle and I can’t afford a rental car while I send it in so I continue to deal with it. Sometimes I have to leave keys attached hoping no one steals my vehicle or belongings. I have taken to a mechanic and they cannot firguee out the issue.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, and while driving at various speeds on several occasions, the tailgate opened inadvertently. Additionally, when the vehicle was parked, the contact observed that the tailgate had opened, and the vehicle would not start due to a drained battery. The contact believed that the tailgate failure had drained the battery. The contact then removed the rear panel from the tailgate and unhooked the switch to stop the tailgate from draining the battery. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 52,000.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while the vehicle was stationary, the seat belt fasteners retracted; however, after adjusting the seat belt the seat belt failed to retract properly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair, but the failure persisted. On a separate occasion, the rearview camera displayed a half-moon shape and blocked the visibility of the driver. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer informed the contact that the issue was normal, and the vehicle was not repaired. On another occasion, the contact stated while the vehicle was stationary, there was an abnormal ticking sound coming from the vehicle. While the contact was driving 75 MPH, the vehicle started to lose motive power. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and the engine seized. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and was diagnosed with engine and lifter failure. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,537.
Tailgate got water in it. Continues to open repeatedly, user cannot stop it. Same part is recalled on 2500 HD and 3500 HD models. However, Silverado 1500 models (with the same tailgate switch part) are not currently covered by recall. This results in dead battery, open tailgate on the road - and contents of bed spilling onto highway. Vehicle further stalls due to electrical draw, causing total loss of usage, including brakes, steering, etc. I have video of the tailgate triggering and opening on its own.
We have had several issues with our vehicle from early ownership, such as, (1) signal light goes from very fast blinking to working. We have taken it to the dealership and are told they cannot duplicate the issue. It seems to correct itself when you turn off the truck and turn it back on. (2) the digital screen about the steering wheel where all all your gauges are have gone completely black. I took it to the dealership and was told that they had to keep the truck until they could duplicate the issue, but again, turning off and then turning it back on seemed to help. Sometimes it works on the first restart, and others it takes a few times and longer times between restarts. (3) OnStar has stopped communicating with my vehicle about a year, year and half in. (4) Google maps has never worked. (5) Remote starts works sometimes. (6) Auto-shut off works sometimes. (7) Air Conditioner started having issues last summer. We have to turn off and on the vehicle or rev up the engine so that it will kick in. This works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. (7) ESC and traction control lights came on, the truck starts shaking, and brakes locked. Truck had to be towed to nearest dealership. The truck only had 12K miles when this happened. (8) Around the same mileage, an injector had to be replaced. (9) Now at 52K miles, we have the ESC, traction control, and check engine light again. Truck is shaking, feels like the gears are slipping when you press on gas, and has white smoke coming from the
Electrical Component failure in the tailgate handle causes the tailgate to come open at anytime during driving. Also the malfunction causes your battery to go dead
Service brake assist message on dash, with check engine light. Brakes are almost useless takes excessive force to get vehicle to stop. Resets after being parked and restarted. has happened several times but will not replicate a dealer. Started with less then 2500 miles on the truck.
Driving down the highway and Vehicle just shut off. Dealer says needs a new engine due to camshaft and lifters. Only 80,000 miles but out of warranty.
Was on a trip 6hrs from home when the truck began to have a pecking noise. The truck suddenly lost power. There wasn’t a shoulder to pull onto so there I sat in the middle of the road waiting on a toll truck. Had the vehicle towed to a dealership where they informed me the engine was locked up. Had to get a rental to get home.
When driving this vehicle on 1/9/25, I was on my way home with my wife from hospital. She was post c section and in very fragile state. The truck was in turning lane when it started making a strange noise and immediately shut off out of no where. There were no lights or warnings on dash. It was extremely cold and we had no heat. We called several tow truck companies to see who could immediately tow our truck to dealer as we were in a very bad location, freezing cold and almost were rear ended several times due to being in this turning lane. Tow truck arrived, had to completely stop traffic for us to enter into another vehicle to make it home. Mind you my wife could barely walk due to her operation. This was a very horrible experience. We bought this specific truck as a family vehicle because we thought it was reliable and safe. The truck was towed to dealer where it had been serviced since purchased and was confirmed that the engine would need to be replaced. We looked online and seen that many people had same issue but no official recall has been put out. We called the GMC recall center and they have been attempting to get us a replacement vehicle as we have a newborn and other children and now have no family vehicle to drive. The recall center has told us there has been an engine ordered but they do not have a date when it will arrive. We are almost two months into this situation with no answers or resolutions still having to make a payment on a vehicle we cannot even drive
I have a 22 5.3L V8 trail boss 86k miles was running great prior.Truck gears started slipping and was able to get it home. Started the next day and check engine light came on and no reverse. Was able to get it to the dealership with the reduced engine power warning. I dropped it off Friday 2/21 and was immediately diagnosed with the bad valve body issue/code. Service was very vague with me at first and gave me 2 options Valve body replacement with an estimate of $3100.00 or a full transmission of $8,000.00. No mention if this was common when asked. Makes sense as to why they did not drop the pan when I asked if they checked the fluid. If this is a common issue I feel as they were trying to lure me into a new transmission for the extra money. That doesnt give me a great feeling with the dealership or chevy in general. I went with the valve body replacement and he said he would order the parts. I called this past week just for an update and asked about parts and then they alluded that they were on backorder from GM not another dealership and he thought he mentioned that. There is no way to track the parts? No loaners available I rely on my truck a lot for work and transporting my family of 4 around. Not very optimistic after reading thats this is a major problem. Has anyone else experienced the brevity when asking for answers? Has anyone else had to pay for this out of pocket? Im expecting the worst and hoping for the best but not really sure where to go from here other than wa

These truck have issue they will not shift to park and will give drive a warning of not in park when the vehicle is in park not allowing fully shutoff and killing battery. I have taken truck to dealer and was advise this is a know issue.
Approx. 8 weeks ago, The OnStar Module stopped working. Took it in for repair, dealer tells me "No ETA on a replacement part, we will keep in touch" After further investigation, I went on the OnStar and Chevy message boards, and I've discovered that this issue has been going on for over 6 months in some cases and there are ALOT, i mean ALOT of people having the same problem. This problem causes all of the remote options to stop working among other things as well. In most cases people have paid a subscription up front for a year.
I received an email from OnStar Notifications on February 22, 2025 at 3:54 am stating my truck had 5% oil life remaining. I have had my oil changed at every required time with the required type of engine oil. I had my oil changed on February 22, 2025 at 3:33 pm. The oil change technician stated that no oil showed on the dip stick. Anytime I have my oil changed, I always check the dipstick to make sure the oil is registering where it should be on the dipstick. It has always been correct. No low oil light warning has ever came on. I looked up to see if these engines were having any issues and found that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has an open investigation on their website posted on January 17, 2025 regarding the 2019 – 2024 model years GM 6.2L V8 engine failures based on complaints of bearing failure – resulting in either engine seizure or breaching of the engine block by the connecting rod. The complaints also stated that there is no detectability prior to the failure. I purchased this vehicle brand new in 2022. I am very frustrated because now I have to worry about my vehicle seizing up while driving and possibly causing an accident and even worse someone getting hurt due to this vehicle issue. I would like to know what is going to be done to correct this issue.
I have a Silverado ZR2 with a 6.2L. My engine blew on it. The main bearing seized on it at the dealership. Its been at the dealership for the last 7 weeks waiting for an engine to be shipped. This is ridiculous that it takes GM this long to ship an engine.
Truck started bucking check engine light and other warning lights lit up.Truck lost the ability to go into reverse.
While driving at 65 MPH, on the highway, , the truck , suddenly, without warning, shifted into neutral gear,, we were able to coast / navigate to the side of the road, turn off the engine and restart. It worked fine for about a week then a second incident occurred - same situation but car engine could not be turned off, could not put into park , or drive.. car stalled. Eventually, we were able to get the car started, but we took it to the nearest Chevrolet dealer, as we were afraid to drive very far with this situation. This ia a huge safety concern, there are no warning lights, messages , prior symptoms or anything .. passengers and other drivers are at risk for an accident to occur. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer at Classic Chevrolet. They have indicated the engine must be replaced. This car is new and only had 26,000 miles. It is on warranty. The Engine is on backorder with no ETA. We have been without our truck for 7 going on 8 weeks now. We keep contacting the dealer but still no outlook for an engine. We have called GM manufacturing but get no where with customer service or customer reps. They promise call back but then it turns into constant phone tag with a TAT of 24-48 hours if we miss their phone call. The car was purchased new [XXX]. The first occurrence of this problem was [XXX]. Second occurrence was [XXX]. Truck as been at Classic Chevrolet Dealer in Grapevine, Tx since [XXX]. We were informed by dealer that there is a recall reguarding some software that needs to be updated to reduce the chance of battery drainage. The catch is they are trying to sell us a part for $567.00 to be installed so they can update the software to fix the problem. (Terry Thompson Chevy)
Complete engine failure while travelling on highway with no advance warning. Suddenly lost all acceleration after vehicle sputtered for few moments. Had to cross two lanes of traffic to get over to breakdown lane while traveling up a fairly steep grade with no power. Unable to restart vehicle or shift into neutral so vehicle was towed to dealer. Dealer has diagnosed complete engine failure and currently waiting on new engine.
Driving along reduced power would not shift and lost reverse
My GM 6.2L L87 Engine failed at 65,000 miles. Left me stranded at an intersection blocking traffic. Traffic safety and state police had to come direct traffic while I was waiting for a tow. Two seperate dealers quoted me over $15,000 to replace the engine with 1/2 the cost covered by GM. This was too expensive for me, so I ended up trading the vehicle in and taking the negative equity hit on a new vehicle loan. I seen there was an investigation opening on GM 6.2L L87 engine failures and I wanted to share my experience. This also happened to more people I know, including my own father with his 2022 Cadillac Escalade

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
