The power steering is randomly going out, no way to predict. This was a recall issue several years ago, which I had repaired at the dealership (when I did not have the issue), and now the issue is happening. Current diag says I need the Torque position sensor and power steering motor and module
When steering under power on acceleration or under a turn, the steering locks up and lose control of my car. This even happens anytime i raised the engine rpm up. Found out the previous ownwe was in an accident because of this. The had 20, 000 miles on it when i bought it in 2021.very dangerous. I want chevy to fix my car at no cost to me
Car randomly stalls due to the Anti-theft system and I have to go thru this 30 minute thing turn the key to on position and off for 10 minutes three times and sometimes that doesn't work so I have to get a tow ,last time it didn't work and now my car has been in my parking lot for three weeks still trying the Anti-theft thing , and this is something a lot of gm owners are having it's very unsafe, when it dies out of nowhere you lose power steering and brakes, and on highway very scary.concern owner.
I started losing steering when I accelerated. Then the vehicle security system would t allow me to take the gear out of park then the car suddenly stopped working all together and all the lights on dash flash, the radio says power steering loss, the steering wheel starts moving back and forth all on its own, the vehicle dies and fries the alternator and won't start.
Noticed the steering was a little loose one day. It alarmed me so I kept a check on it. Now it's progressed and squeals. My steering is loose and almost free spinning for most of my driving.
Driving at 20mph, increasing speed to merge onto grand central parkway (up to around 45mph), steering wheel seized. All lights came on the dash, then disappeared. The car let out a few chimes, possibly 5 chimes. The car was unable to be steered and crossed 3 lanes before regaining control. Recall for the steering was completed on this car in 2020. The issue has occurred multiple times since the recall was completed.

EPS irregularities locks up..as previous reported. Steering column now feels lose when using tilt steering wheel lock won't engage. Steering wheel jumps back and forth Steering column moves. According to VIN number there is no recall. Other sites state April 2006 malibu was recalled. According to prior owner after being in touch ..they said recall was mailed to them around 2016 but didn't follow up because no issues at that time.this is my only transportation I cannot afford to attain another vehicle. I am a nurse. I need resolution
Power steering failure. Locks up while driving. Locks right after starting also backing out of driveway. Bell goes off but motor didn't lose power. This happened 2 times
Power steering light kept coming on for a long time and steering was affected sometimes making it very hard to steer now its really causing a hard time steering I'm afraid to drive the car. I understand there was a recall about this problem in the 2006 malibu I never got a notice. Sandra Cusson.
Power steering goes out with out warning while driving. Says add power steering fluid no way to add some. Also makes a clunking noise and steering wheel is very shaky. The loosing of power steering is not safe as it can cause an accident. After looking up issue many have same issues. This needs to be recalled and fixed.

Sudden loss of steering power almost ending on a crash
POWER STEERING SENSOR INTERMITTENT FAILURE - LOSS OF POWER STEERING
While driving on I95 the major highway my cars steering wheel started to shake and I heard like a popping noise then, a bell or chime rang and the information center read POWER STEERING. Suddenly the steering wheel was hard,I was taken by surprise, and almost went into the other lane. Thank God my son was with me he helped me get onto the first exit off the highway while other cars were speeding by. The next day I looked on the internet for any other people who had the same problem and I found out about the recall, called Chevrolet and spoke to the information about the recall and was told that the original owner had the work done and I was not eligible for any kind of help. The car now has 63000 miles on it after me buying it in June of 2020 with around45,000.have a car fax report given at time of sale shows no recall imfo,at all.I am a senior citizen getting not enough money to pay my bills and am on assistance from the government for.. I need help and am starting with you. I would like to know how long the parts were warranted because in 2014 the original owner had35000 miles on the car so that would make the part only lasting less than 30,000 miles,I love this car and it is the first one that I have ever given a name, though it might sound a little weird, oh well to each their own. I looked up the part on a well-known internet site and as electronic power steering assist module runs close to 300.00 and that does not include labor and god knows what else.
Major fuel leak from fuel pump from gas tank area. This occured while driving. Car needed to be towed for repair. Required replacement of electric fuel pump inside the gas tank.
The power electric steering message not working comes on in the info center at times i believe it said shaft needed to be replaced this has happened a few times this past year comes on a few times then goes out for a while i dont believe it was fixed on a recall
Power steering going out intermittently
Steering locks up when accelerating onto highway or any heavy acceleration. Car also will make clicking sounds when this happens.

The power steering light came on while driving and I could barely turn the wheel. I took car to Firestone and was told electric power steering pump and they couldnot fix it and may have to take to dealer. I had to leave car so it get tow to a dealer. When got ready to leave I could not turn at all. I been notice that the wheel use to pull back when I turn. This can cause an accident.
The rack and pinion needs to be replaced at the speed of 65 the steering feels loose and I was told that the rack and pinion is out, so I am having to replace the entire thing, I dont have a receipt yet because it's going to the shop next week, it seems odd that a car with only 75k miles would need a new rack and pinion. Also the high mount brake light is out..which seems crazy on a car with low miles, I understand that the car is old but to me it's a new car, I only just purchased it in October 2020.

ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, SINCE PURCHASING LESS THAN 2 YEARS AGO, MY POWER STEERING HAS STOPPED WORKING. IF I TURN THE CAR OFF, GET OUT, AND GET BACK IN TO RESTART, THEN IT HAS CORRECTED ITSELF. IT HAS ALWAYS HAPPENED IN A STATIONARY SETTING THUS FAR, BUT AFTER READING ABOUT THE 2014 RECALL FOR 04-06, I'M NERVOUS THAT I MAY BE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE.

POWER STEERING KEEPS GOING OUT. I WILL BE DRIVING AND IT WILL RANDOMLY GO OUT, THE SHOPS CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT, AND KEEPS RESETTING THE CODE AND THEN IT GOES OUT AGAIN IN A MONTH OR SO. THE DASHBOARD INFORMATION GIVES A WARNING ABOUT THE POWER STEERING. THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR OVER A YEAR.
ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILING AGAIN. STEERING WHEEL SHIMMIES WHILE AT IDLE AT STOP LIGHTS POWER STEERING FAILS WHILE DRIVING
MY POWER STEERING WILL GO COMPLETELY OUT WHILE DRIVING. MY STEERING WHEEL WILL BEGIN TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY WHILE BRAKING TO SLOW DOWN AND WHEN I AM AT A COMPLETE STOP. VERY HARD TO STEER WHILE THIS IS ALL HAPPENING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOSS POWER STEERING ASSIST MAKING THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE CONTACT RELATED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING). THE CONTACT STATED THAT NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 128,000.
WAS DRIVING CAR AND THE ENGINE CUT OFF. REDUCED ENGINE POWER SHOWED ON MY RADIO AND TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON ON THE DASH. I HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK, TURN IGNITION OFF, WAIT A COUPLE OF MINUTES, THEN CRANK IT BACK UP TO DRIVE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. I HAVE NOTICED THAT IT HAPPENS WHEN IT IS RAINING OR HAS RAINED. WHEN THE ROADS ARE WET. IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. IT HAS HAPPENED BOTH WHILE DRIVING AND BRAKING. C0242 - ENGINE CONTROL MODULE INDICATED TRACTION CONTROL MALFUNCTION IS THE CODE IT IS GIVING ME. THIS IS CAUSING MY GAS MILEAGE TO DROP TO AROUND 230-250 MILES PER TANK. WHEN I WAS GETTING ALMOST 400 PER TANK.
THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES AND IT WANTS TO GO TO THE RIGHT AND WHEN I FIX THE WHEEL TO GO STRAIGHT THE CAR MAKES A BEEPING NOISE AND THEN THE WHEEL LOCKS UP. IT DOES THIS WHEN MOVING FORWARD OR TURNING.
ABOUT 1 MONTH AGO THE STEERING WHELL BEGAN TO SHUTTER JUST AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IT PROGRESSED SINCE THEN TO MORE NOTICABLE SHAKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL AT ALL SPEEDS WITH INTERMITTENT SHUTTING OFF OF THE POWER STEERING. NOW THE POWER STEERING SHUTS OFF ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER START UP. MAKING THE VEHICLE PRACTICALLY UNDRIVABLE AND UNSAFETO OPERATE. I SAW THAT THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS FOR THIS VEHICLE FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT WHEN I CHECKED THE VIN IT SAYS THERE ARE "0" UNREPAIRED RECALLS. SO SINCE I'VE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 2.5 YEARS THAT A PREVIOUS OWNER MAY HAVE REPAIRED IT ALREADY?
I HAVE OWNED MY CAR FOR OVER 5 YEARS NEVER HAD AN ISSUE UNTIL 2WKS AGO. I WAS LEAVING THE STORE AND HAD NO POWER STEERING. I'M NOT CAR SAVVY, BUT A KNOW ENOUGH TO GET BY. THOUGHT MY FLUID WAS LOW BUT FOUND OUT MY CAR HAS HYDRAULIC POWER STEERING AND THE RACK WAS PROLLY BAD, BUT LEFT THE AUTO STORE AND THE POWER STEERING RETURNED. AND HAS BEEN IN AND OUT UNTIL I FOUND THIS RECALL. LUCKILY BOTH THE GROCERY STORE AND AUTO STORE WERE IN THE SAME PARKING LOT AND MY DRIVE HOME WAS ONLY A HALF MILE,
I CALLED CHEVY RIGHT AFTER I START EXPERIENCING MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND THEY MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR ME THE LADY TOLD ME THAT I HAD THREE RECALLS ON MY CAR AND THEN I HAD MISSED MY APPOINTMENT BECAUSE I HAD COVID SO WHEN I WAS BETTER I CALLED AND RESCHEDULED APPOINTMENT AND WHEN I TOOK MY CAR IN THEY SAID THAT IT WAS NOT UNDER THE RECALL LIST WHEN I KNOW IT HAD BEEN REPLACED BEFORE THE GIRL BEFORE ME THAT OWNED IT SAID THAT IT HAD TO REPLACE IT ONCE BEFORE FOR THE POWER STEERING OR THE STEERING COLUMN SO NOW THIS NOW I'M DRIVING MY CAR IT HAS NO POWER STEERING IT'S JERKING BACK AND FORTH WHILE I'M DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY IT'S NOT SAFE AND I HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO DRIVE SO WHAT DO I DO SO I'VE BEEN LOOKING THINGS UP AND IT TOLD ME TO FILE A COMPLAINT SAFETY COMPLAINT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE AT A STAND STILL, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING THE EPS SENSOR REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 167,000.
AS I WAS DRIVING, MY STEERING WHEEL WOULD JUST SHAKE. ESPECIALLY WHEN I TRY TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT. THERE'LL BE A CLICKING SOUND THEN IT STIFFENS UP AND I'M UNABLE TO TURN, THEN IT STOPS. YESTERDAY, 12.20.2020, I WAS DRIVING WITH MY 2YR OLD IN THE CAR AND MY STEERING COMPLETELY STOPPED ALTOGETHER IN THE MIDDLE OF ME TURNING THE CORNER OFF THE HIGHWAY. I HAD TO STRUGGLE TO TURN THE WHEEL TO GET ALL THE WAY HOME TO SAFETY. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME 😭 THANKS!
THE CAR WILL BEEP AT ME THEN POWER STEERING SHOWS UP ON THE DASH WHEN STILL. THEN THE STEERING GETS HARD. BUT IF I TURN IT OFF THEN TURN IT ON AGAIN IT WORKS OKAY FOR A LITTLE WHILE.
MY ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING WENT OUT STARTED COMING BACK ON AND NOW IT WON'T WORK AGAIN I WAS TOLD IT WAS A RECALL
THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING IN STREET TRAFFIC. I HAD TO MANUALLY STEER THE CAR USING BOTH ARMS AND ALOT OF FORCE. I HAVE USED THE CAR AGAIN SINCE THEN AND THE SAME ISSUE COMES AND GOES AT RANDOM WHILE DRIVING.
I HAVE OWNED MY 2006 CHEVY MALIBU SINCE LATER 2018. IT IS NOW NOV 1ST 2020. A FEW MONTHS AFTER I GOT THE VEHICLE I HAD ISSUES. I HAVE HAD ALL RECALLS REPLACED BY FREDERICKSBURG VIRGINIA CHEVY DEALERSHIP (THEY SAY THAT THEY DID?) THE ENTIRE TIME I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE THE STEERING VIBRATES AT HIGH SPEEDS. ALSO THE ENTIRE TIME I'VE OWNED THIS CAR, WHEN I SPEED UP ANY HILLS MY STEERING LOCKS UP MY BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR PULLS TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT DEPENDING. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE! DEALER DIDN'T KNOW WHAT COULD CAUSE IT. I LEARNED TO IMMEDIATELY TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AND THE STEERING GOES BACK TO NORMAL. THIS IS NOT EASY ON A CURVY HILL ROAD. THIS CAN CAUSE A SERIOUS WRECK. I HAVE A 10 MONTH OLD BABY. THIS IS FRIGHTENING IF IT ONE DAY IT DOESN'T FIX BY TAKING MY FOOT OFF THE PEDAL. NOW MY STEERING IS STIFF AND IS SO HARD TO TURN WHEN DRIVING AT SLOW SPEED. THE STEERING MOTOR RECALL HAS ALREADY BEEN REPLACED SAYS THE DEALER. SO WHY IS IT GOING BAD AGAIN? IT HAS ONLY BEEN 30,000 MILES LATER. WHY AM I HAVING A STIFF STEERING WHEEL AGAIN IF THEY REPLACED IT? THE TC LIGHT CAME ON WITHIN HOURS OF THE STEERING GOING STIFF. WHY DOES CHEVY DISTRIBUTE VEHICLES WITH SUCH SAFETY ISSUES? I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE STEERING TO BE 'FIXED/REPLACED' AGAIN! DANGEROUS CHEVY VEHICLE.

THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME HARD TO DEPRESS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A FRIEND REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. SIERRA CHEVROLET (7850 U S 64, MEMPHIS, TN 38133, (901) 382-5644) WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT AN APPOINTMENT WAS NEEDED TO BE SCHEDULED FOR THE FREE REPAIRS. THERE IS A SITUATION HAPPENING WITH THE HEADLIGHT. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS SO COMPROMISED THAT IT MELTS AND DESTROYS THE CONNECTIONS. I HAVE REPLACED TONS OF BULBS AND NOW THE LIGHT CONNECTOR IS ERODING BECAUSE OF EXCESSIVE HEAT CONDUCTIVITY WITHIN THE SYSTEM.
THE CAR IS NOT FUNCTIONING RIGHT I AM HAVING MAJOR PROBLEMS SUCH AS MY MANUFACTURING CONTROL MY BATTERY LIGHT IT'S CONSTANTLY GOING ON AND OFF IT IS DRAINING MY ALTERNATOR I HAVE JUST RECENTLY SWITCHED OUT THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT WAS STILL GIVING ME MINOR PROBLEMS SUCH AS A BACK REAR END PASSENGER TIRE WELL I DON'T TECHNICALLY THINK THAT IT WAS THE TIRE BECAUSE IT MAKES A LOUD ROCKING NOISE HAVEN'T QUITE JUST FOUND OUT THE PROBLEM I HAVE CHECKED OUT EVERY OTHER THING THAT I COULD THINK ABOUT TO MY VEHICLE 2006 CHEVY MALIBU THAT IS BUT I MYSELF CONTINUE TO WORK ON IT AND HALF OF THE TIME IT STILL SHUTS DOWN OR WON'T COMPLY RIGHT AND ONE MORE OTHER THING MY ABS SYSTEM TAKES A 60% FUSE BUT THE ABS STILL COMES ON WITH THE FUSE IN AND WITH IT OUT AND I AM HAVING A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH MY TRACTION CONTROL SENSOR BUT NOW SO FAR MY CAR IS JUST DOWN AND NOT DRIVABLE AND ONE MORE THING MY CAR WAS DRIVING DURING THE SHUTDOWN SYSTEM ON THE CITY STREETS

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
