2019 Chevrolet Equinox complaints

While traveling a message appear "power reduced" a noise was heard like whistle (air whooshing). The time Car was started the engine light was on. The car was serviced by GM/Chevrolet dealership service. They found water in the spare tire compartment, but didn't not agree that it was the cause of malfunction. The asked if the car had been in a flood. I did my own research and found that this water leak problem is a known issue in litigation.

The car has constantly been stalling. The engine light comes on and goes off. These lights has come back on. This has been a reoccurring issue since the car was purchased in 2019. I just got the battery fixed this tear from them saying it was the battery. GM keeps offering me $2500 dollars but saying if I take it I can’t take action against them. That further let’s me know that they know something is wrong with the car.

My vehicle beginning idling and check engine light came on while at red light. So I decided to head to nearest auto parts to see what the code was. The light turned green and my truck didn’t want to go forward. Once it started to pull off it went slow and then gain a little more speed. This could’ve caused an accident. The people from the opposite side of rode would’ve hit and probably killed my son and I. This is not okay and needs to be checked on all vehicles because that’s a very late warning sign and can cause a huge issue. I’m reaching out to Chevrolet tomorrow morning since today is Sunday.

Outside mirrors keep changing position. Almost got into crash because suddenly could not see while merging. This issue has been ongoing and many people are discussing the same issue on an Equinox forum.

The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.

Twice the vehicle has gone into limp mode (15 mph max) on busy highway in last month. Diesel particulate filter clogged both times. Currently has been in Chevy dealer shop for over two weeks. Emission system failure and dealer cannot figure out cause. They are currently replacing many parts and cannot assure us this problem will not reoccur. 47,000 miles. Maintenance has been better than recommended for oil changes and filters. Currently awaiting second repair invoice.

Was driving in a busy area of Erie, PA, when approaching a traffic signal driving near 45 mph before the speed limit dropped. Attempted to apply brakes as traffic was backed up at the light, but couldn't depress the brakes at all. The service brake assist light came on at that moment. Was fortunate that light turned green a few seconds later so traffic cleared and I was able to make a wide high speed right turn at the intersection before pulling into a nearby empty business parking lot and coasting to a start without colliding with anything. It was a miracle. The car was towed back to a Chevy dealership (Ben Bissett) in Mercer, PA, where they identified a failed brake vacuum pump, which also caused other damage when it failed. We have since uncovered dozens of reports of similar incidents in these vehicles nationwide and believe this is something you should look into as this is a serious safety issue that could lead to injury or death. I was approaching and intersection with a red light and I put my foot on the brakes. The car slowed down but then bucked forward three time until I hit the vehicle in front of me. Been driving for 44 years and never experienced anything like it.

Something is wrong with the brake assist system. The car was serviced literally towards the end of may and the brake assist service light keeps turning on. It is now causing the vehicle to have a check engine light that comes and goes as it pleases and the car now thinks that it is a bucking bronco at times with how hard it runs at times now. We have spoken and seen now multiple others complaining about the fueling system which does not alloe you to fill the gas tank up all the way. The tank holds 14.9 gallons and if the car is empty and on its last drop the car will only allow 12 gallons at best and that takes nearly 20 minutes of fighting with the car at the pump. The electrical in the vehicle is unstable. Multiple times while driving the radio and power to the car just turn off. I have also seen the recalls for the brake problems but when I enter my VIN it comes back all clear. We had a 2017 Chevy Malibu with multiple issues and spoke to Chevrolet about the issues and it wasn't until we traded it in that we started to receive the recall notices. This vehicle has some of the same problems and we have a toddler that we need to keep safe.

I was driving on a main interstate and went to take an off-ramp, I tried to use my brakes to slow down but the peddle was rock hard and couldn’t brake at all.

My car is lunging forward when I stop at a traffic light once I let my foot off of the brake to step onto the gas pedal. My engine light happened to come on to coincide with this problem. I feel that this is unsafe.

Both rear view mirrors in my Equinox change position everytime i get into the car. It doesnt matter how many times you do the preset, it will have one mirror looking at the sky and the other the ground. GM calls it a non problem but I have almost got into several collisions because I didnt realize my mirrors were messed up.

The air bag safety restraint system is faulty on this vehicle. This is a system that should work for a life time for the vehicle but it's already defective. This vehicle once the battery is low or needs jump start, the entire steering controls become loose which may cause serious accidents for unseasonably experienced drivers.

There was a recall back in 2019 for this same issue the charge air cooler is still disconnecting from the throttle body. I bought this car in 2021 supposedly the issue was fixed back in 2020 after the recall was issued. The same thing is happening. When I accelerate the air hose connecting to throttle body is disconnecting from and causing the engine warning of reduced engine power to show up. This is very concerning because when driving on the freeway with my family this is happening and this could get someone killed. The fixes back in 2020 are not up to standard or the replacement parts are faulty or the repair was not completed successfully. This has been happening since last year summer

This vehicle has started to lose power was taken to firsteam Norfolk Va where purchased took for oil change and tire rotation also loss of engine power at speeds of 20-32 mph and 50-62 mph. Dealership at Norfolk Va sent to firstteam Hampton VA Chevrolet for diagnosis and came back no engine light and small misfire 3/4 sparkplugs needed changed 177.00. After plugs were changed still had misfire then they felt it was number 4 injector 500.00 but never did work. I took it to national shop for recommended injector and when plugs were pulled mechanic found no new plugs. Injector was replaced with gm part and still misfiring. Norfolk firstteam towed vehicle back to Hampton Va firstteam and they are now giving me the run around. They want a blank check to replace parts till they find the problem. Unexceptable to even ask. Service writer has been very disrespectful and hung up on national shop and myself. When asked questions regarding work done service writer would just talk over us and speak to us disrespectful and then hung up. We have requested service manager at Hampton firstteam Chevrolet contact us and we were told she would tell him later. I have contacted Aston Lewis Jr owner of all firstteam dealerships here in Va requesting help three times and still no response. We need this reported so someone can fix the misfire and power loss the dealership does not know how to fix. Car is under power train warranty . Any help would be nice.

I own a 2019 Chevy Equinox which has developed an issue with the steering, the same as occurred with earlier models. When driving straight for brief periods of time, the steering resists turning either direction to follow the road changes. The wheel is stiff and requires additional effort to adjust. I only have about 30K miles on my car. This is very uncomfortable and lacks for any feeling of security. This could cause a skid on icy and snowy roads that we have now. I see there is no recall for this but I am very concerned for my wife driving the car. This is now a regular occurrence and at any speed.

The vehicle is operating on reduced power and shuts of almost immediately. After plugging a scan tool in and reading the codes, it said the crankshaft timing was over advanced and the sensor needed to be changed. I've changed all four sensors (both crank and cam sensors). The engine shows no codes, but when I crank it, it immediately reduces power, shuts off, then shows the same codes. After trying a few times, it says the ECM, MAP sensor, and heat sensors are bad. When I disconnect, then reconnect the battery, it only shows the crank sensor code. The check engine light goes off, but comes on again right before the engine shuts off each time. As a result, the vehicle has been sitting since 10/4/22 due to it shutting off suddenly in traffic. I've had to change the battery twice during this time due to the battery completely dying and a jump start doesn't work.

I purchased the crossover 2019in or around Sept 2021 the engine light appeared, it was taken to Reedman Toll Chevy of Springfield and they replaced the mass air flow sensor or oxygen sensor. Sept 2022 the engine light appeared again they replaced the oxygen sensor, Dec 19,2022 the engine light appeared again the vehical was taken to Reedman were it remains and I am being told it's th orifice tube(PVC tube). They stated this part is not covered under warranty after research GM bulletin No.: 20-NA-047 states this part is in fact covered. Reedman states the coverage of the service is $2,000.00 I contacted GM warranty dept (Irene) case#9-8392615536 who stated the part is covered also. Reedman refuses to follow the order given under the bulletin and GM.

Purchased 2019 Sept 2021 engine light appeared fixed mass air flow by Reedman Chevy Sept 2022 engine reappears they fixed oxygen sensor Dec 19 2022 engine light reappears. Taken to Reedman 12/28/22 states orifice sensor or tube discover GM is aware of issue bullentin no.:20-NA-047 Reedman refused to honor repairs. States service will be $2,000.00 after contacting GM Protection Plan stated they give a $300 good will offer toward repair however the part is not covered under warranty(confused).

I would like to bring to your attention the maintenance issue I experienced as it could have been catastrophic. On December 15, 2022 I was driving home from work in Dallas. I was going about 40 mph when the vehicle in front of me started to slow down, so I was going to as well. However, when I tried to, my brake pedal wouldn’t move. I tried again and still nothing. Now my engine light comes on and a “service brake assist” warning is popping up on my dash. I took my foot off the gas to slow down in time and was able to pull to the side of the road. I see that she is a leak from my fuel tank, so when i researched it online i see there was a recall on it previously. From my understanding this is a safety hazard. It also states there arent any open recalls on my vehicle but i want to make sure this was completed and replaced.

Gas gauge will not go all the way to full. It stops just over 3/4 of a tank, no matter how much fuel you put in the tank. There is no way to accurately determine how much fuel is in the vehicle at any point and time. This is a safety hazard because we could be stranded on the side of the road, not knowing the vehicle would run out of fuel. Also, occasionally when you crank the vehicle, you get a strong odor of fuel in the cabin, when running the A/C. There is nothing specific that is being done differently, and it does not happen every time. We bought this vehicle on 9/18/22 with 27,602 miles on it and as of today, it has 28,594 miles on it. After purchasing it, we noticed the fuel gauge issue and I researched it online, finding out it is a common issue and GM claims to have no idea how to fix it.

I've taken my car to the Springfield chevy dealership at 840 Baltimore Pike, Springfield, PA 19064 several time. The time the replaced mass airflow sensor had to be replaced or the oxygen sensor last year. I received a message from Onstar An issue with the emissions system in your 2019 Chevrolet Equinox has been detected. Please service your vehicle within 7 days. Which was the same message for berfore, Wayne the techn stated it the battery which is incorrect I informed him of the Onstar message and told him how the car would shut-off and wouldn't start. I had two battery test perform and was told the battery, starter and charging system all passed. He stated we have to change the battery as a starting point and work from there which is ridiculous. I stated if this is so why wasn't this mention in the Onstar Diagnostic Alert. My car was there for six hour and no one call I had to contact them around 4pm and they close at 4:30pm no customer service.

I was driving exiting a school zone going about 35 mph. As I was coming up on a stop sign my brakes went completely out on my 2019 Chevy Equinox, and to avoid hitting kids walking across the sidewalk I ran into a cement wall to stop my car this morning on 9/21. I had it diagnosed twice and both vendors said it was the Vacuum pump brake and they have been seeing many of these cases. I checked the recall and there isn’t one but over 200+ reviews with this exact issue! This is a huge safety issue! People could of been severely hurt today. I called the dealership and they said I need to not get it fixed and wait to file a claim and call product quality claim.

The brake system failed and my car is now in a salvage lot. I believe the car will remain there only until I submit the car title. While driving in heavy traffic I was unable to make a sudden stop to avoid hitting the car in front of me. I had enough time to stop, but the brakes failed to engage properly. The brakes were very stiff and vibrated or pulsated as I applied the brakes and my car wouldn't stop prior to colliding with the car in front of me. My safety and the occupants in the other car were at risk. The life of a pedestrian, if involved, could have resulted in death. Luckily, there were no serious injuries and exterior damage appeared minimal but my car suffered serious internal damage. I was not able to confirm the problem with the dealership. My phone calls were not returned. I also contacted Chevrolet and now waiting for a follow-up call. The car was only inspected by the insurance appraiser, who deemed my car a total loss because the car frame was cracked on both sides, air condenser damage, exterior damage plus more. The insurance co. had my car towed to a holding parking lot for salvage. My greatest concern is if this had been a situation where I was unable to stop suddenly to avoid hitting a pedestrian and killed someone! The appraiser suspected the air bag sensor might have failed since the impact was hard enough to crack the car frame. Winter 2021, vehicle went into reduced engine mode as I was going up a hill. There was no one behind me and I made it 100 ft to a driveway. I was able to turn around and get car home. Towed to Sonju, dealer where it was leased from. Fixed by them and returned to regular use. 06/28/22, while driving on a Hwy 53, 45 mph zone, with no notice, engine went into reduced power mode. I was almost hit due to the proximity of the car behind me and the sudden loss in power. I managed to hit my hazards, pull into middle turn lane until traffic passed. I then was able to get into a business parking lot. I shut car off. I made some phone calls. Turned car back on, all was fine. Back on the road. No call to dealer. 07/08/22, engine in reduced power mode while I was only .5 miles from my house. Made it to a turnaround point where I was able to turn vehicle off. Called dealer to make appt for service. Limped vehicle home. Vehicle towed to Sonju for fix. 07/18/22, after fixed at dealership, it was picked up. We made it 22 miles. I was in a urban part of Duluth, MN-speed limit 30, heavy traffic. As I turned to go up hill, engine again went into reduced power mode. There is no shoulder for me to go to and I'm almost hit from behind as the car jerked and slowed. I was able to pull off. Shut car off. When I started it up, it was still in reduced power mode. I was on interstate 85 going 70 miles an hour when I got on the interstate the brakes were working perfect got to go on 70 miles an hour and traffic started stopping when I hit the brakes it was so stiff that I couldn’t apply it Ammo divert to the emergency Lane and pushed with all my mic and finally got it to stop if my wife would’ve been driving it which is her car she would’ve been severely hurt probably

After purchasing the vehicle in April 2021, 3 months later upon traveling home and entering an exit ramp the brakes completely locked while going 35-45mph into ongoing traffic downhill and would not allow me to press down on them so that I could come to a stop. I press the emergency brake and that did nothing. I had to glide through traffic into a gas station parking lot almost slamming into a gas pump. The sewer dip allowed the vehicle to slow up and come to halt blocking the traffic. This happened after midnight so I took it to the dealership in which i purchased. No lights appeared on the dash. They advised me the brake booster pressure sensor, brake booster vacuum hose and then after doing so they said non of it fixed the issue, I would need a new brake booster. All totaling over $2000 for a vehicle I had less than 6 months. Shortly after the month following July or August, stalled and the push to start button wouldn’t activate. I waited a few moments and then it turned on, with the engine light lit. I took it directly to dealerships service department and they had it a month, they eventually said it was the Oxygen Sensor and it needed to be replaced. I reached out to GM about all of the issues. They stated there were recalls but not for my VIN. CRAZY Now less than a month, a slight fender bender, another vehicle crossed into my lane, the sensors did not initiate, I had to swerve to dodge from causing any major damage and avoid on coming traffic. I was involved in a car accident where all of the side airbags deployed. On the drivers side just behind the arm rest the airbag that deployed caught on fire and burned all th way through my shirt, jeans and underwear leaving two large burns on my left side. Some areas are 3rd degree.

My P225/60R18 two front tires are peeling in-between threads and my threads are very low compared to rear tires. I have 23,059 on the tires.

Fuel leaking from fuel tank and receiving code u18a2 lost communication with fuel pump driver control module.

Today on may 22 2022 i was driving on cruise control at 60 mph when the brakes locked up and slid the wheels. the brakes didnt release untill i pressed on the gas pedal. this is the exact same thing that happened last summer and reported on your file number 11427660. this is a serious safety problem that could get someone KILLED. the dealer replaced a brake control module but same problem reappeared.

I own TWO 2019 Chevy Equinoxes. BOTH vehicles have the exact same issue. The driver side(only) wiper blade leaves a smear with every pass, directly in the line-of-sight. I have replaced blades with many different manufacturers, to no avail. It cleans well for approximately 3 days of use, then immediately returns to the smear. It is a complete hazard. Dealer was notified. They replicated the issue. No 'solution' available. Chevy notified & report filed. This has to be a known problem. I cannot have THAT bad of luck to buy the only 2 Equinoxes with this issue.

While my wife and I are traveling on the highway out of town going 72 mph there was traffic and she began to press the brake peddle but car didn't want to stop. She had to push all body weight on the brakes and the brakes seem like it's hesitation and vibration but eventually stopped. This is very dangerous and brake service light came on. I pull off the exit and check fluids and brakes and all looks normal as I know some about cars. I called to get it checked today and lady said to bring it in right away as they are aware of this common issue with these equinox. She say either canister or pump failure which I researched and have many people who have complained but GM has changed 2018 certain models but failed this model year also and didn't fix the design for this model year of 2019 D2. Need this investigation to continue and I will begin petition for class action suit against GM which they have been notorious for law suits. Please help!!!

While driving on the highway a warning message came up that said “engine power reduced” and moment after we lost the ability to accelerate. We pull over and turn the car off, when trying to restart it, it would not restart. We were left stranded on the side of the highway. We had to get it towed to a GM dealership and after 3 days we received a diagnosis that the vacuum pump failed and seized which caused damage to the end of the cam shaft. Repair costs are approx. $1800! We are lucky we didn’t completely lose control of our vehicle and was able to get to the side of the road!

Fuel line busted. Vehicle only has 53K miles. Could have caused a fire. Must have been a defect in this high pressure line.

The front passenger seat warmer gets extremely hot. It feels like it is burning your skin within minutes of turning it on. It almost feels like sitting on a hot leather seat in the middle of summer with shorts on.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? On at least 4 occasions, while using the adaptive cruise control, the brakes are suddenly applied hard when no vehicles are anywhere near close enough to trigger an emergency braking situation. I have to manually step on the gas pedal to have the car stop the automatic braking. We can make the vehicle available upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? This incident is startling when it occurs and can cause an accident if a vehicle happens to be too close behind our vehicle. We are reluctant to use the adaptive cruise control as a result of these incidents. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by the dealer or service center. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No component has been inspected as a result of these incidents. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There are no warning lights or messages that appear before, during or after the incident. The incidents occur suddenly and with no warning.

The Charge Ari Cooler Duct Disconnected from the Throttle Body. When this happens my car immediately goes into lower power mode. This is a safety concern, when going 70 MPH, it will immediately drop down to 50 MPH. This sudden decrease in speed can cause other drivers to wreck into me and my family. This problem has been confirmed by a dealer. This has not been inspected directly by the manufacturer, however it was inspected by a dealer. There were no warning signs prior to failure, only a warning after the incident occurs. The check engine light comes on.

Sunroof glass "exploded". Sounded like tire blew out. Scaring me into almost a panic situation. Dealer said they never heard of this. Have not gone to insurance yet. No warning signs.
