There has been a recall on the driver's side airbag for over one year and the remedy is still incomplete. The potential to be injured or killed by the airbag rupturing is happening on a daily basis. Some sort of fix should have been available in a year's time.

There is a current recall on my 2017 Buick Enclave. The front-driver airbag inflator may contain a supplier manufacturing defect that may result in inflator rupture during deployment. An inflator rupture may cause metal fragments to pass through the airbag and into the vehicle interior, which may result in injury or death to vehicle occupants. I have tried to get this fixed but the dealer tells me they cannot get parts!

I had taken to Alpena Mi.Buick GMC address 133 Johnson St Alpena Mi. 49707. When the warning come up on the message center on the dash [XXX] That said service side detection system and in the side mirrors each side light up all the time and would cost $875.00 installed at that time had to pay $80.19 inspect and advise. At that time was unable to afford that cost to have fixed. So with those light on in your mirrors it was a unsafe to drive in daylight hours and worse in night time driving so we had to limit our driving because of this and both my wife and myself are on disability.. It was a distraction and made for unsafe travel for ourselves and for other drivers on the roads. We were able to afford on [XXX] and at time was taken back to. The same dealership for repair at that time they installed the side detection Kit cost was $812.66 which was less then the original cost. Question number 2 With this lights on in your mirrors at all times when we would be driving day and night it was a big distraction that you never would know if someone was in the next lane to you on two lane road or on the interstate. So each person was at risk in our vehicle as well as other vehicles. Question number 3 Yes that was confirmed by Alpena Buick GMC the dealer I had taken the car to back on [XXX] . Question number 4 As far as it being a GM dealer and being a GM part I would say yes. Question 5 yes as I told you in Question 1 it had on the message center in dash Service Side Detection as well

The vehicle was parked in a Driveway in Michigan on Sunday [XXX]. It was approximately 64 degrees. The car seat was safely positioned in the rear passenger side. Rear facing. The window was cracked about an inch so the vehicle was not too hot when leaving. After 4-5 hours I went to leave and the right upper seatbelt on the car seat had melted/burned to the point where it was broken into 2 pieces, which resulted in burns to the seat cushion as well. Thankfully there was not a child in the car seat at time of malfunction so the child was not put at imminent risk. Had the seatbelt not broken it could have snapped during an accident if it was melted and damaged. Graco was contacted and they responded stating this was a burn caused by myself. I'm registering a complaint about the length of time that owners/drivers are having to drive their vehicles without remedy for the airbag safety recall N232404980. We were notified of the air bag defect, with risk of harm/death, in June 2023. Parts were not yet available for repair as of that time. We were advised that we would be notified when parts became available. They are still not yet available 6-7 months later in February 2024. There is personal risk in driving these vehicles, risk to the safety of our families, and an impact to the trade-in value and market for our vehicles. If GM cannot ready parts in a reasonable time, they should be required to compensate vehicle owners for the value of our vehicles plus the forgone tax benefit associated with having a trade with auto purchase.

The NHTSA has issued a recall due to a safety concern with the airbag since the airbag inflator may rupture causing metal fragments to explode into the vehicle interior causing death or harm to passengers. As a result these vehicles have been designated as not safe to drive. While it appears through the Working Capital Assistance Program some type of compensation or assistance is being provided for dealers nothing is being done for those of us who own one of these vehicles. There is also absolutely no indication of when a remedy for this safety recall will be available; supposedly the defect is being addressed. Therefore we own a vehicle which has been declared unsafe to drive, yet nothing is being down to help owners of these vehicles. Why?

NHTSA publishes every complaint as the owner wrote it and investigates only a fraction. Spelling, capitalisation and judgement are the filer’s own. What carries weight is repetition: the same component failing the same way across many filings, and whether the manufacturer eventually opened a recall for it.
