2006 BMW 760i

Defect. BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2005-2008 745i, 745Li, 750i, 750Li, 760i, 760Li, and B7 Alpina vehicles equipped with both the Comfort Access and Soft Close Automatic options. In these vehicles, the doors may appear to be closed and latched, but, in fact, may inadvertently open.

Risk. The door may unexpectedly open due to road or driving conditions or occupant contact with the door. The sudden opening may result in occupant ejection or increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Remedy. BMW will notify owners, and dealers will update the door latch system, free of charge. The recall began February 8, 2018. Owners may contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417 or email BMW at [email protected].

Defect. BMW of North America LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2006 325i, 325xi, 330i, 330xi sedans and 325xi sports wagons, model year 2007 328i, 328xi, 335i, 335xi sedans and 328i and 328xi sports wagons, model year 2006-2007 525i, 525xi, 530i, 530xi, 550i sedans and 530xi sports wagons, model year 2006 760i sedans, model year 2006-2007 750i, 750Li, and 760Li sedans, and model year 2006 X5 sports activity vehicles, equipped with certain seat types. The front passenger seat occupant detection mat that determines if and how the passenger frontal air bag should deploy in a crash may fatigue and develop cracks which could lead to a system failure.

Risk. Should the system fail, in the event of a crash, the front passenger air bag would be deactivated, increasing the risk of personal injury.

Remedy. BMW will notify owners with an interim notification letter in January 2014 since parts are not currently available. When parts are available, BMW sent a second letter in August and dealers will repair the occupant detection mat to eliminate the possibility that it may crack, free of charge. Additionally, owners of model year 2006-2007 3 Series with standard seats, 5 Series with comfort seats, and Z4 models, will receive an extended warranty on their front passenger seat occupant detection mat. Due to a software problem, the doors may appear to be closed and latched, but, in fact, may inadvertently open.

Defect. BMW is recalling certain model year 2005-2008 7-Series vehicles, equipped with the Comfort Access option, and manufactured August 23, 2004, through July 24, 2008. The affected vehicles have an electronic key and an electronic connection between the gear shifter and the transmission (shift-by-wire) that automatically shifts the transmission to Park when the driver presses the Start/Stop button to shutdown the engine. If the driver presses the engine Start/Stop button 2 or 3 times within a short time interval, the system may shift the transmission to Neutral rather than Park. If using the electronic key (Comfort Access mode), there would be no protection from the ignition interlock that prevents key removal if the vehicle is not in Park.

Risk. If the driver exits the vehicle with the transmission in Neutral and the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle may rollaway. Unattended rollaway incidents often result in a crash or cause injury to pedestrians attempting to stop or enter the vehicle or to other bystanders in the path of the vehicle.

Remedy. BMW will notify owners beginning in November 2012. The remedy became available in March 2013. Owners may call BMW at 1-800-525-7417 or email BMW at [email protected].

DRAINAGE HOLES CLOG AND LEAKS IN TRUNK WHERE AIR COMPRESSOR FOR SUSPENSION AND OTHER IMPORTANT ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS ARE SUSCEPTIBLE TO WATER DAMAGE.

AS A CONSUMER AND ALSO READING ABOUT OTHER CONSUMERS HAVING ISSUES WITH THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMPS, THE OEM PART WHICH BMW IS CHARGING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IS OVER $6,000. THE PARTS ARE ONLY FOR THE 2006 760I AND THEY SEEMS TO BE GOING OUT ON A LOT OF PEOPLE. SOME CONSUMERS WERE LUCKY TO HAVE IT GO OUT DURING THEIR WARRANTY BUT SOME HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS TYPE OF EXPENSE AFTER WARDS. IF THIS PART SEEMS TO GO OUT ON A LOT OF 760I MODELS IN BMW THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL OUT THEIR TO FIX THEM. I CAN UNDERSTAND IF THERE WAS A FEW BUT THERE ARE AT LEAST 20 JUST ON THE FORUM THAT I NORMALLY GO TO FOR ANSWERS TO MY QUESTIONS. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN EPIDEMIC AND BMW NEEDS TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THIS, ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS IS ONLY ON ONE MODEL AND THAT THE COST OF THIS IS OVERWHELMING.

HARD TO START, CRANKS FOR A WHILE TILL IT BUILDS UP PRESSURE THEN STARTS. IDLES ROUGH AND SOMETIMES DIES WHEN SITTING AT STOP LIGHT, AND SPUTTERING POWER AT TIME WHEN TAKING OFF, ALSO WHEN IT STALLS WHILE DRIVING IT IS A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER FOR STEERING AND OTHER CONTROLS, VERY DANGEROUS WHEN IT HAPPENS. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A FUEL PUMP PROBLEM. CAR HAS 2 FUEL PUMPS. VERY VERY COSTLY REPAIR AT THE DEALER. DEALER SHOULD REPLACE AT THEIR COST.

BAD FUEL PUMPS. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE YOU CAN BE DRIVING AT ANY DRIVING SPEED AND THE CAR WILL SHUT OFF ON YOU WITH NO WARNING. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 760I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SEAT SENSOR MAT AND AIR BAG WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V564000 (AIR BAGS). THE DEALER STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE SENSOR MAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.

HAD VEHICLE DIAGNOSED FOR STALLING, ROUGH IDLING, LOSS OF POWER, AND SHUTTING OFF IN TRAFFIC. FIRST BMW REPAIR FACILITY, "LOW PRESSURE FUEL PUMP OUTPUT, AND HIGH PRESSURE PUMPS VERIFIED VEHICLE HAS EXTENDED CRANK. READ OUT FAULT MEMORY AND FOUND NO RELATIVE FAULTS STORED. PROCEEDED TO PERFORMED LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM CHECK. FOUND OUTPUT PRESSURE LOW AND AFTER VEHICLE SHUT OFF SYSTEM LEAKING BACK. PROCEEDED TO REPLACE INTAKE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL FILTER." PROBLEM WAS STILL PRESENT 3 DAYS LATER. SUBMITTED VEHICLE INTO ANOTHER REPAIR FACILITY WHERE A BMW TECHNICIAN WORKS ON WEEKENDS TO RECEIVE INFORMATION FROM THE FACILITY OWNER, THAT BMW TECHNICIAN CANNOT TOUCH MY VEHICLE. SUBMITTED VEHICLE INTO A 3RD REPAIR FACILITY TO FIND THAT BOTH HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMPS HAVE FAILED, "REPLACE BOTH HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMPS, REPLACE FUEL TANK PRESSURE LEAK DIAG PUMP." BMW REPAIR FACILITY WAS AWARE OF THIS FAULTY READING BEFORE FIXING A PART THAT WAS NOT BROKEN. THEY KNOW THEIR HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMPS ARE FAULTY. *TT

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 760I. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR UNEXPECTEDLY UNLATCHED. THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH THE COMFORT ACCESS AND SOFT CLOSE AUTOMATIC OPTIONS. THE DOOR WOULD ONLY REMAIN CLOSED WHILE HOLDING WITH YOUR HAND WHILE DRIVING. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 12V504000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES) BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY BEING DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,900. *TR
