Please see the recall report for the complete list of models. The driver's air bag inflator may explode during deployment, due to a manufacturing defect.

Risk. An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, increasing the risk of injury or death.

The EGR cooler may leak internally, causing coolant to mix with diesel engine soot, which could result in smoldering particles and a melting intake manifold.

Risk. A melting intake manifold increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy. Dealers will replace the EGR cooler and inspect the intake manifold, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. This recall includes all vehicles previously recalled under 18V-755. Vehicles previously recalled under 18V-755 will need to have the new remedy performed for this recall. An interim owner notification letter was mailed on January 18, 2022. The remedy is expected to be available in June 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 6, 2022. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Am experiencing repeat high-pressure fuel pump (hpfp/cp4) failure on my 2014 bmw 535d. First incident was covered an extended warranty. Policy then with the second being cover under then recently issued recall of the matter. Now i am experiencing however another cp4 failure with the dealership refusing to cover the repair saying the recall was completed . Given that the vehicle already received bmw corrective action for this known issue and the same component has now failed again, CP4 failures are a well known document concern with the diesel bmw community and this failure creates potential safety risk(stalling) I believe it is reasonable to expect bmw to participate in covering this repair under goodwill consideration. I have maintained the vehicle responsibly.

Hello, I have a 2014 BMW 535D, with only 46k miles. On September 14, 2025, my family experienced an unexpected and horrific incident that could have resulted with tragic consequences. This is not acceptable. While driving on the freeway at approximately 70 MPH, our vehicle completely malfunctioned in the fast lane and came to an abrupt stop. The thought of a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and crashing into us and potentially causing an explosion would have been catastrophic. Luckily, CHP pushed our vehicle to the shoulder after waiting fearfully for 20 minutes. I had a diagnostic report completed of my vehicle and it identified that the engine failure was due to the high pressure fuel pump coming apart internally and contaminated the entire fuel system with metal particles. The vehicle is available for inspection by NHTSA, if needed. No warning lamps or messages ever appeared to advise something was wrong. I have researched and learned that there was a 21V-586 recall for my exact year and model vehicle. I had never received this important notice from BMW and it was not addressed during any of my visits at the dealership every time I brought it in for maintenance. I am appalled at the possible loss of life due to this negligence. Car stalled at 119,000 miles giving no service codes or indications of need for service. Car stalled again at 122,000 miles and would not restart. BMW specialist found high pressure fuel pump failure and contamination of all surrounding fuel system components. Research into this issue shows a systemic failure of the high pressure fuel pumps on these vehicles but this particular VIN number is not supported in the existing recall. The repair cost of the components is greater than the value of the vehicle, with no defect coverage from BMW.

My car keeps indicating that my battery is low because it is discharging after car is turned off. I kept smelling a burning smell and finally discovered that my battery was burning a hole in my trunk lining. The battery has melted the plastic covering the positive terminal on the left side. And it was smoking on fire when I opened my trunk.

In July 2023, on the interstate in Des Moines during rush hour traffic, the car suddenly lurched once and abruptly stalled. We were in the passing lane with no chance to cross 3 lanes of traffic, so I coasted onto the left shoulder. We were towed to the BMW dealership where we were eventually informed of a “catastrophic” failure of the fuel system requiring complete replacement. This was not an ordinary fuel pump failure. There were no warning messages prior to the stall and when it did stall we were not warned to pull over safely in “limp mode”. Had we been in either of the center two lanes when it happened, we could have created a multi-car accident— which easily could have resulted in injuries or deaths. After several conversations with BMW of North America Customer Relations, I learned that some cars of this year, make and model have been recalled and others were issued an extended warranty (10 years or 120,000 mile— we were at 9 years and 125,000 miles). Despite my complaint and concern for the risks involved, BMW has chosen to do nothing further. By internet review, this fuel pump— the Bosch CP4— is a known problem in the United States.

BOSCH CP4 HPFP failed and released metal shavings throughout all fuel lines, injectors and gas tank. BMW had a recall for 12K vehicles but mine was not on the recall list and BMW cannot explain why given that my fuel pump exploded like so many other BOSCH CP4 pumps. I am not in at least 7K in repairs to replace all the fuel lines, pumps and injectors that the faulty part ruined. I believe BMW knew that these pumps were bad and did not notify all owners that had them in the car. My year, make, model and build date all fit into the recall notice but i was not included. BMW cannot explain why and will not agree to pay for the repair bills.

My car has a coolant leak coming from the plastic pipe underneath the manifold. The BMW dealership said this is a common issue with the bmw. You should definitely do a recall on this issue. It costs $1585 to fox a $30 defective part on these cars.

This BMW was sold to with a faulty condition with a faulty engine. No lights ever came on . Although there was a bad engine.

On/around 4/24/2023, I was driving home at approximately 35mph when I heard a loud noise under the car as if I had run over something. I was able to safely pull into a parking lot and immediately shut off the engine. The vehicle was hard to steer but I managed to do it. There were no warning lamps or messages and the control center said "all systems are okay" I looked under the car and saw a significant amount of oil coming from underneath the car. I opened the hood and saw significant oil on the lower engine. I called AAA and had the vehicle towed to my local BMW dealership where I had worked done recently around 11/2022. My service advisor was able to check the car in and told me he would give me an update the next day. I received an inspection video on 4/25/2023 in which the service technician stated that the car experienced a catastrophic failure: the driveshaft broke and knocked a hole in the oil pan and broke a few other things. The technician is recommending replacing the driveshaft and the engine assembly. The technician stated that there could be other repairs involved. To date, I'm still awaiting to hear back from the service advisor for the cost of repairs. This was a very scary incident and could have been fatal if I was driving on the highway at a higher rate of speed. Vehicle stalled at 60mph in free way without giving any check engine lights. I barely was able to pull over safely which could have ended in a big accident. This is a High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) failure as stated in recalls for these same vehicle model and years 2014-2018. Need to assure BMW takes responsibility for all vehicles to assure that this failure is avoided in all vehicles and not in some and prevent future potential accidents or death.

I believe my vehicle should absolutely be included under this recall. Two mechanics have inspected the system, including CROWNE BMW of GREENSBORO, NC. Crowne BMW of Greensboro states that there is metal debris found in the fuel tank, pointing to a failure of the high-pressure fuel pump. Not seeing any active recalls, a previous mechanic had replaced the fuel pump and 2 of the 6 injectors, but this did not remedy the issue. The car still does not function properly, constantly gives warning lights, and runs poorly, like it's starving for fuel. It is my belief that these metal shavings have contaminated and ruined the entire fuel system on my car and likely caused irreparable damage to the engine as well. I believe BMW should be responsible for this faulty fuel pump and thus, the damage to my entire fuel system and engine. I would hate for this issue to happen to someone else or a family on the highway and cause a serious injury or even a death.

My car is experiencing stalling and stuttering issues due to the failed EGR Cooler that's in recall. This part was replaced by BMW 2 years ago with a different recall with the same part. It's unsafe. Sometimes, my car stalls or stutters while driving which poses a huge risk (especially when turning out onto a street where there's traffic coming towards me). This has happened numerous times. I get a notification "Drivetrain Malfunction" when the car's computer detects there is an issue and it seems to correct the stalling issue. The problem is, the car doesn't always do this while I'm driving. This most recently occurred on 7/9/2022 but has happened many times since the recall was issued in 11/2021. I have not been contacted by BMW with an update on this recall since 1/2022.

In January of 2020 the car stopped running while driving down the highway without warning. Upon restart the check engine light and chassis stabilization warning lights came on. I had the car towed to BMW. I was given an estimate of $18,000 to replace the entire fuel system. The problem was a faulty fuel pump that put metal shavings into the pump and fuel system. This is a known BMW problem. In fact there's a recall on my exact model for this issue but my VIN was not included. I feel it should be. I contacted BMW North America but was told there's nothing they can do. This is a diesel engine with under 125,000 miles on it. This should not have happened.

BMW has recalled the HPFP and EGR Cooler but not the EGR valve, which also fails and causes power loss, due to the same issues noted in the other recalls. The EGR valve should be added to the EGR cooler recall. The dealers are hiding behind ambiguity on this point to charge consumers for a common failure that should be covered, for the same reasons the EGR cooler has been recalled.

Timing chain failed and caused the vehicle's engine to shut down. This failure occurred while driving at approximately 70 MPH on Rt. 90 in NY state. The car was traveling in the passing lane. The loss of engine power resulted in loss of steering and maneuverability placing the occupants of this vehicle and other vehicles in a very dangerous situation. Vehicle was towed to a BMW dealership in NY, and upon inspection by BMW technicians, concluded the timing chain failure led to the engine failure and shutting down. There was no warning or any indications of the problem prior to it occurring.

At 65000 miles, the SCR DEF active tank sensor went out. The dealership service department at Roadshow BMW in Memphis said this has become pretty common with BMW vehicles equipped with Diesel engines. The part is $2000 dollars and does not include the labor costs to install ($1335).

My 2014 BMW 535d has barely over 60k miles. Two weeks ago, I received a warning message after turning on the ignition stating that no diesel exhause fluid could be detected. In addition, the message include a mileage countdown starting a slightly over 800 miles. I took the car to Roadshow BMW in Memphis, Tennessee to be repaired. They are telling me that the DEF sensor will have to be replaced. In addition, they said the DEF reservoir will need to be exchanged. The cost for this repair will be approximately $3,352 dollars plus tax. The technician I spoke with said that this is a common issue with BMW's.

Don't have an accurate answer as to what component failed, but all indicators point to the EGR/AGR flap valve failing. Smoke was coming out of the front end of the Intake manifold, after careful visual inspection I noticed a hole was made from the internal fire melting the plastic intake. This could've been a lot worse and the car could have burned. Thank God I reacted quickly and pulled into a non crowded area away from the road and turned the car off.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT AROUND 65-70MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY SUNROOF EXPLODED INTO THE VEHICLE ALL OVER ME. I SWERVED AS A RESULT OF THE SHOCK BUT THANKFULLY WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE BEFORE HITTING ANYONE. I WAS THANKFULLY IN THE VEHICLE ALONE AND SUFFERED CUTS TO MY FACE AND SCALP. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF ANY CRACKS ON THE SUNROOF AND THERE WAS NO FOREIGN BODY IMPACT NOTED. GLASS FLEW INTO THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS GOUGING THE ROOF AND AND TRUNK OF THE VEHICLE WITH GLASS SHARDS.

I HAVE AN ENGINE CHECK LIGHT ON MY DASHBOARD MOST LIKELY CAUSED BY EGR COOLER MALFUNCTION. REALLY FRUSTRATED ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO GET THIS ISSUE RESOLVED BY BMW.

I OWNED A 2014 535D WITH ABOUT 54,000 MILES. BMW HAS ISSUED EGR RECALL DUE TO RISK OF FIRE SINCE OCT 2018. AS OF MARCH 2019, THERE IS NO REMEDY OR PART REPLACEMENT. WHAT IS THE POINT OF RECALL ESPECIALLY THE VEHICLE IS USED TO CARRY CHILDREN. NTHSA NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.

THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V755000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). CENTURY BMW (2934 LAURENS RD, GREENVILLE, SC 29607, (864) 214-3449) DIAGNOSED THAT THE EGR COOLER FAILED, BUT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS PROVIDED A LOANER VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.

THE DRIVER'S DOOR LOCK CANNOT BE OPENED MANUALLY DUE A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRICAL DOOR ACTUATOR FAILURE. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW IN A CRITICAL COMPONENT WHERE THE DRIVER SHOULD BE ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR IN CASE OF AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE OR IN AN EMERGENCY WHEN ITS CRITICAL THAT THE DRIVER IS ABLE TO MANUALLY OPEN THE DOOR EVEN IF THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE, BATTERY DIES, THE CAR IS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT OR THE CAR FALLS INTO A BODY OF WATER - IN ANY OF THESE CASES THE DRIVER SHOULD BE ABLE TO UNLOCK AND OPEN THE DOOR MANUALLY. THE FAILURE OF THIS DOOR ACTUATOR ALSO PREVENTS THE DOOR TO BE UNLOCKED AND OPENED MANUALLY. I THINK THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND A POTENTIAL DEATH TRAP. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES AND THERE ARE MULTIPLE BMW OWNERS THAT HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS ON THE INTERNET AND TO BMW, WITHOUT ANY RECOURSE.

I HAVE 2014 535D AND THE FILL RESERVOIR LIGHT CAME ON AFTER CHRISTMAS . I DIPPED DRIVE HOME. ON THIRSDAY JANUARY 3 IT DID IT AGAIN. I HAD SENT BMW AN EMAIL THAT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON WHICH HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE O BOUGHT THE CAR. INTAKE MANIFOLD, NOX, OXYGEN HAD ALL BEEN REPLACED. RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE ON FRIDAY JAM 4,2019. WE ALREADY KNEW IT HAD THIS RECALL ISSUES WELL NOW I HAVE TO REPLACE A $625 HOSE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAR ISSUE THAT'S BEEN RECALLED. I BELIEVE THE RECALL CAUSED THE ISSUE BUT NOW I HAVE TO PAY FOR PART AND LABOR BEFORE THEY CAN WORK ON IT AND THIS PART IS SEVERAL WEEKS WAIT. I BELIEVE THE EGR LEAK CAN MELT THE HOSE AND LEAVE STRANDED . ONCE THE EGR FAILS IT'S DOING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE VERY QUICKLY AND LEAVING EVEN MORE REPAIRS BMW IS NOT COVERING. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN WORKED ON FOR MONTHS NOW AND THE FIX DOESN'T LAST BUT COUPLE MONTHS AT BEST.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 BMW 535D. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AND WAS UNABLE TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO HERRIN-GEAR BMW OF JACKSON (LOCATED AT 1685 HIGH ST, JACKSON, MS 39202, (601) 354-2269) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE DEALER ALSO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE TIMING CHAIN FAILURE DUE TO THE REPAIR FEES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 1-4011097971. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000. *TR
